DALI, short for Danish Audiophile Loudspeaker Industries, is a loudspeaker maker founded in Denmark in 1983 by Peter Lyngdorf. It began as the in-house speaker brand of his Hi-Fi Klubben retail chain and has since grown into an exporter present in more than 65 countries. The first product, the DALI 2 of 1984, set the company's habit of covering many price points, from compact bookshelf models to large floorstanding flagships, plus wireless speakers and headphones.

Range & what it's known for

Current upper lines are KORE, EPIKORE and RUBIKORE. SONIK and OPTICON form the middle, KUPID and MENUET are compact models, KATCH and the IO headphones are wireless, and the PHANTOM series is for custom installation. Older Epicon, Rubicon and Oberon models still appear in the market. A key engineering thread is SMC, a Soft Magnetic Composite used in driver magnet systems to lower distortion. It arrived with Epicon in 2012, moved into Rubicon in 2014 and the entry-level Oberon in 2018, reached a second generation with KORE in 2022, and in 2023 the IO-12 became the first headphone with an SMC driver. Ribbon tweeters made in-house date back to the 1988 DACAPO.

Who owns it and where it's made

DALI A/S is privately held. Peter Lyngdorf remains chairman of the DALI Group and Lars Worre is CEO. Headquarters, engineering and manufacturing have been in Nørager in northern Denmark since 1986, on a site of about 22,000 square metres. A quality-control facility in Ningbo, China, opened in 2007, and sales offices operate in Germany and the UK.

The lineup in this catalog

Loudspeakers, wireless speakers and headphones in several categories, priced from roughly EUR 300 for the smallest bookshelf models to well above EUR 100,000 for the KORE flagship.

Who it's for

A buyer planning to move up the ladder without leaving one maker is well served by DALI. A compact KUPID or OPTICON model is the usual first step, SONIK and RUBIKORE follow, and EPIKORE and KORE are the end point. Owners who want streaming without separate electronics can pick KATCH or the IO headphones within the same brand.
