Audiolab is a British hi-fi electronics brand founded in 1983 by Philip Swift and Derek Scotland, who met as students at Imperial College and shared a frustration with the high cost and awkward use of hi-fi equipment. Their first product was the 8000A integrated amplifier, followed by the 8000C preamplifier, the 8000P power amplifier and the 8000M mono-blocks, and the company went on to add CD players, transports, radio tuners and digital-to-analogue converters.

Audiolab now sells three numbered series. Its 6000 series, launched in 2017 and styled by Danish designer Jan Ertner, includes the 6000A integrated amplifier, 6000A Play, 6000CDT transport and 6000N Play streamer. The 7000 series adds the 7000A, 7000CDT and 7000N Play, and the 9000 series covers the 9000A integrated, 9000N streamer, 9000CDT transport and the 9000P and 9000Q power and preamplifier pair. Older 8300 models, introduced in 2015, remain listed. The M-DAC family, including the M-DAC+, M-DAC Mini and M-DAC nano, sits beside the M-ONE, the Omnia all-in-one, the PPA7 phono stage and the M-EAR earphones.
Who owns it and where it's made
Swift owned the company until TAG McLaren bought it in the late 1990s, after which it traded as TAGMcLaren Audio. That business ceased development in 2003, and in 2004 the audio operations were sold to the International Audio Group, headquartered in Shenzhen, China, which also owns Quad, Mission, Wharfedale and Castle. Audiolab returned with an all-new range in 2005. The 2010 8200 series added computer digital inputs, with its digital products designed by John Westlake.
