Arendal Sound is a Norwegian loudspeaker company founded in 2015 by Jan Ove Lassesen and named after his home town of Arendal on the south coast, where the company is still based. It sells only direct to the customer and shipped its first series, the 1723, in early 2016. In ten years it has grown from one THX-certified home cinema range into four series covering stereo and multichannel use, sold across Europe and North America with a 60-day home audition period.

Range & what it's known for

Each series is named after a date in Arendal's history. The 1723 series is the THX-certified core, with the Tower THX, Monitor THX, Center THX, Surround THX and Height S plus the 1S, 2S, 1V and 2V subwoofers. The 1961 series is the compact line with a Tower, Bookshelf, Monitor, Center, Surround and Height model and its own subwoofers. The 1610 series, launched in 2026 and named for the year Arendal became a market town, sits between them with Tower 8, Bookshelf 8, Slim 8, Monitor and Center 8 versions. The 1528 series heads the range with the Tower 8, Bookshelf 8, Monitor 8, Slim 8, Center 8 and Center+ 8, using lithium-magnesium tweeters and carbon-graphene midrange cones. Across the lines the drivers are Arendal's own, and the cabinets are designed around controlled-directivity waveguides and time-aligned baffles, checked on a Klippel near-field scanner in the company's own lab.

Who owns it and where it's made

Arendal Sound is a private company run by its founder, an engineer from nearby Grimstad whose father ran an electronics shop in the town. Acoustic design, measurement and product development are done in Arendal, production is contracted to a factory in China because building in Norway would price the speakers out of their market, and European orders ship from a warehouse in the Netherlands.
