Acoustic Signature is a German turntable maker founded in 1996 in Suessen, a town in the Goeppingen district of Baden-Wuerttemberg, by engineer Gunther Frohnhoefer, who still runs it as CEO. It builds high-mass belt-driven turntables together with its own tonearms, moving-coil cartridges, phono preamplifiers and motor electronics, and machines nearly every metal part in its own factory. The company marked its 30th anniversary in 2026 with a staff of 28 and distribution partners on five continents.
Range & what it's known for
The current NEO series holds twelve turntables, from the Maximus NEO and the anniversary Merlin NEO at just under EUR 4,000 up to the Ascona NEO, Invictus Jr. NEO and the 130 kg Invictus NEO with six motors and room for four tonearms. The Thirty NEO alone lists at EUR 24,999. The engineering ideas repeat across the range. Silencer modules are brass inserts pressed into the aluminium platter to damp ringing, with counts running from eight on the Double X NEO to 48 on the Invictus. The DTD bearing pairs a diamond-coated shaft with a maintenance-free thrust design, CLD chassis sandwich two metal layers around a damping layer, and AVC electronics correct motor phase in real time, on the larger decks through the external DMC-20 or DMC-50 controller. Seven NEO tonearms, TA-500 through TA-10000, and four MCX cartridges complete the front end, and the Tango Mk3, Tango Reference and Tango Apex phono stages cover the amplification side.
Who owns it and where it's made
The legal entity is AS-Distribution GmbH, a private company at Hillenbrand Strasse in Suessen, led by Gunther Frohnhoefer with Jacqueline Frohnhoefer as co-CEO. Design, CNC machining and hand assembly all happen in that one building. Registered turntables carry a 15-year warranty and tonearms a five-year warranty.
The lineup in this catalog
Four Acoustic Signature products are listed, spanning turntables, tonearms and phono equipment, with prices from about EUR 4,000 for the smallest deck to well above EUR 20,000 for the multi-motor models.
Who it's for
Acoustic Signature fits a vinyl listener who wants a heavy, low-maintenance deck and prefers to buy the arm, cartridge and phono stage from the same drawing board. Maximus NEO or Merlin NEO with the TA-500 is the sensible start, the Double X or Tornado NEO adds Silencer platters and a second armboard, and the path continues through Hurricane and Typhoon NEO to the Invictus models for anyone who wants three or four arms on one plinth.
