The Borea BR10 is a floorstanding model in the Borea series of Triangle, a French maker that started the Borea line in 2019. The design is a three-way passive tower using a front bass reflex port and was the first Borea speaker to use 21 cm bass drivers. The price per single speaker is USD 1,149, with a choice of walnut, white, light oak or black ash.
Key specs that matter
Four drivers are mounted in each enclosure. A 25 mm silk dome tweeter with the EFS waveguide handles the treble, the mids go to a 16 cm cone of natural cellulose pulp, and two woofers with fibreglass membranes take the bass. Crossover frequencies are 310 Hz and 3,900 Hz. Triangle specifies 30 Hz to 22,000 Hz within 3 dB, a sensitivity of 92 dB at 1 W and 1 m, 8 ohm nominal impedance with a 3 ohm minimum, and 200 W RMS power handling. The cabinet measures 245 x 1,110 x 380 mm, or 300 x 1,145 x 435 mm including its pedestal. Net weight is 29.5 kg per speaker, gross weight 34.5 kg, and the shipping box is 400 x 1,230 x 520 mm.
Engineering and use context
The large woofer was developed entirely by Triangle's own research and development department. It follows the same principles as the smaller Borea bass units, with a fibreglass membrane and a powerful motor matched to its enclosure volume, but gains a new basket shaped for better ventilation to support higher power handling and a new half-roll rubber surround. The tweeter and the midrange, which has a small pleat suspension, are carried over unchanged from smaller Borea models. The BR10 also introduced a new crossover architecture to Borea, with the low frequency circuit fully isolated from the mid and high frequency circuit. A dual terminal block accepts cable up to 4 mm2 or standard banana plugs, and removing the jumpers allows bi-wiring, bi-amping or both. Triangle's proprietary Driver Vibration Absorption System, or DVAS, relies on MDF and EVA foam panels placed against the bass drivers to stiffen the driver and cabinet assembly and absorb vibration from the moving cones. The box also holds a grille that fixes by magnets, along with steel spikes and rubber tips.
Pairing
Triangle recommends amplifiers rated from 75 to 350 W and points out that the high sensitivity makes the BR10 easy to drive for most amplifiers. The maker also lists home cinema systems among its uses, with the BR10 working as the main left and right speakers.
Alternatives
Triangle's Borea BR09 is another floorstander of the same series, with a Triangle room recommendation of more than 30 m2.
