The sPS-500 is a linear power supply made by SOtM and designed for audio equipment that runs from an external DC supply. It is built to suppress both the noise generated by connected devices and the noise arriving from the AC mains, using SOtM's own noise-cancellation circuitry together with components already used elsewhere in the brand's product line. It is the smaller of SOtM's two linear supplies.
Key specs that matter
The AC input accepts 100-240Vac at 50/60Hz and draws 1.6A. DC output is selectable between 7Vdc, 9Vdc, 12Vdc and 19Vdc to match the requirement of the connected device, with a voltage tolerance of plus or minus 10%. The current limit is 5A at 7V, 9V or 12V and 3.3A at 19V, with the same tolerance. Maximum output power depends on mains voltage - 55W at 120Vac, 50W at 110Vac and 45W at 100Vac. The case measures 106 x 48 x 230 mm and weighs 2 kg.
Engineering and use context
Protection circuitry covers output short circuits and over-temperature, and input, output and overcurrent protection keep the supply stable whatever load is connected. The controls are kept to a minimum, the front carrying a switch for the DC output and one LED that shows the unit is working, and the back carrying the mains switch. SE versions add further upgrades. The SE-S-Evox configuration uses a stranded silver Y DC cable with extra EMI shielding, silver internal wiring and Evox capacitors, while the SE-C-Evox version uses stranded copper internal wiring and a copper DC cable at a lower price. A DC cable with the matching connector is supplied.
Pairing
The four output voltages and the available power cover NAS units, fanless audio PCs, network switches, media streamers and many other DC-powered audio components. SOtM's own network switches, servers and clock generators are intended to run from the sPS-500 in place of a stock switching-mode adaptor.
