The MC2KW monoblock power amplifier is designed to exceed all permissible limits of natural sound reproduction. The device is capable of delivering 2,000 watts of continuous power and 8,000 watts at peak. Impressive numbers, but this is just the beginning of the story. The MC2KW uses proprietary McIntosh Quad Balanced Circuitry, which, in the process of generating such power, actually suppresses all noise and distortion.
The monoblock is capable of delivering up to 300 watts of undistorted power for an 8 ohm load and up to 480 watts for 4 ohms. The famous blue-illuminated Dual Scale arrow indicator is installed on the front panel. The output stage of the amplifier is controlled by the proprietary Power Guard circuit, which protects it from overloads. And the Sentry Monitor circuit protects the cascade from a short circuit at the output, and without using a fuse insert.
The amplifier is equipped with a McIntosh Unity Coupled Circuit output transformer, which allows you to safely transfer 350 watts to any speaker. The amplifier has a fully balanced driver section, where 12AX7A and 12AT7 lamps are used. The output is equipped with EL509S lamps, which were chosen because of their similarity to the 6LQ6 lamps of the MC 3500 model.
The device is equipped with a crossover, which facilitates the implementation of such a scheme – the frequency of the section can be selected from 100 Hz to 1 kHz. At the same time, separate inputs of the amplifier sections are also implemented, which allows the use of external crossovers.
The device replaced the previous generation MC601 model and is capable of delivering 600 watts, and for any load, be it 2, 4 or 8 ohms.
