Integrated amplifiers — Marantz PM6007

The PM6007 is a slimline stereo integrated amplifier from Marantz with a class AB output stage based on a current feedback topology. It delivers 45 W per channel RMS into 8 ohm across 20 Hz to 20 kHz and 60 W per channel into 4 ohm. Marantz lists it at USD 750 with a 3-year warranty, with black and silver-gold finishes on offer.

Key specs that matter

Marantz rates distortion at 0.08 % with both channels driven at rated output. Frequency response on the CD input at 1 W spans 10 Hz to 70 kHz within +0 and -1 dB, and output bandwidth at 0.06 % distortion runs from 10 Hz to 50 kHz. The damping factor is 100. The line inputs for CD, tuner, network and recorder take 200 mV at 20 kohm, with signal-to-noise ratio of 102 dB at 2 V input and rated output. Engineering and use context

Marantz builds the output around its HDAM-SA3 module, which the company says widens dynamic range and lowers distortion. Digital sources are decoded by an AK4490 converter in a fully shielded DAC unit, fed from one coaxial and two optical inputs alongside five gold-plated analogue inputs. The phono preamplifier for moving magnet cartridges has a FET input. Its linear drive supply relies on a toroidal transformer and customised block capacitors, and heat goes into an extruded aluminium heat sink. Copper screws and a metal fascia complete the build, and a source direct mode takes the tone controls out of the signal path.

Pairing

Two sets of speakers can be connected via the gold screw terminals and chosen with A/B switching. A headphone output supplies 50 mW into 32 ohm. A television, disc transport or streamer can join via the digital inputs, while record decks with moving magnet pickups plug into the phono socket.
