An entrepreneur, Enos Barton and an inventor, Elisha Gray, partnered to supply a rapidly expanding world of electricity and communications with quality manufacturing. Booming demand for equipment was good for business. But Barton and Gray’s small Cleveland workshop was also a place for imagination, buzzing with creative energy. This is the original vision of Western Electric.

Integrated amplifiers
The engineers used a patented technology of a controlled current source in the integrated circuit. The parallel power supply topology transfers half of the current to the triode anode, which increases the output power to 20 watts per channel. The attenuator consists of discrete resistors in a ladder configuration; it is switched on and off from the circuit to obtain a logarithmic attenuation of the output signal.
