March 2025 Ultra High End System - High End on the March!

A ribbon tweeter with just 0.01 grams of moving mass anchors this build - the Børresen RP94 fitted to the T5, the largest model in Børresen's T-series and a design explicitly derived from the far pricier flagship M-series. Hifiverse titled it "High End on the March," and the electronics driving that tweeter are Constellation Audio's Revelation 2 preamplifier and stereo power amplifier, fed by a Kalista DreamPlay XC combination CD/SACD player and network streamer.

The system at a glance

Four components, a serious price tag with the T5 alone listing around €130,000 per pair in standard trim, and electronics chosen specifically to give a speaker this resolving something worthy of its tweeter. This is a system for a buyer who wants Børresen's flagship-derived engineering without committing to the full M-series price, backed by American amplification built around switched-mode power-supply technology rather than conventional linear designs.

Why these components work together

The T5 is rated at 88 dB sensitivity into a nominal 6 ohms or higher, driven by that RP94 ribbon planar tweeter, which measures 94dB efficiency entirely on its own and operates from roughly 2.5kHz upward with no transformer in the signal path, paired with dual 5-inch bass/midrange drivers using Børresen's patented ironless magnet motor and a serial crossover topology that keeps every driver on the same phase-locked current flow instead of splitting frequency and phase content the way a conventional parallel crossover does. The Constellation Revelation 2 Stereo delivers 300 watts into 8 ohms through Balanced Bridged circuit topology, with its Line Stage Gain Module input stage and a switched-mode power supply, C-SMPS, engineered with Power Factor Correction to deliver more than 20dB quieter DC voltage than a conventional linear supply would provide at comparable size and weight. That quiet power supply matters directly for a speaker built around a tweeter this sensitive and this light - any noise the amplifier's own power section introduces has nowhere to hide against a driver moving barely a hundredth of a gram of mass. The Revelation 2 preamplifier shares the same Line Stage Gain Module and servo-monitored signal path, correcting inconsistencies actively rather than passively, keeping the same low-noise standard upstream of the power amplifier. The Kalista DreamPlay XC completes the source side as a self-contained digital hub, combining SACD and CD playback with a built-in network streamer and its own digital preamplifier section, its DAC serving only its own internal transport and streaming sources instead of functioning as a standalone outboard converter.

How it sounds

With the RP94's near-zero moving mass and the T5's phase-coherent serial crossover both aimed at speed and coherence, and Constellation's quiet switched-mode power supplies keeping the amplification's own noise floor out of the way, the system leans toward the fast, detailed, refined character Børresen's M-series-derived engineering is built to deliver, scaled to the T5's still-substantial but more accessible price point within the T-series range.
