Named after company founder David Andrew Wilson, the Sasha DAW carries midrange and tweeter units borrowed straight from Wilson Audio's flagship WAMM Master Chronosonic, and here it does its work driven by the Gryphon Mephisto Stereo, a 108 kg pure Class A amplifier from Denmark. The rest of the electronics chain, CH Precision preamplification and phonostage, a TechDAS/Kuzma/Air Tight analogue front end, a LampizatOr DAC and an Aurender streamer, is shared with Hifiverse's other flagship builds, giving a useful reference point for how the same source and amplification behave with a different loudspeaker.
The system at a glance
Ten components, all High-End tier, with the Sasha DAW itself sitting at roughly $37,900 per pair, considerably more accessible than many of the exotic-material flagships this electronics stack is more often paired with. It suits a listener after Wilson's American voicing and time-domain precision rather than the ceramic or diamond drivers common at this price point in European high-end, backed by amplification and analogue sources with no compromises of their own.
Why these components work together
The Sasha DAW is rated at 91 dB sensitivity and a nominal 4 ohms, but its impedance dips to just 2.48 ohms at 85 Hz, precisely the kind of reactive low-impedance load that trips up amplifiers without genuine current reserves. The Mephisto Stereo is built for exactly that - 175 W into 8 ohms, doubling to 350 W and 700 W into 4 and 2 ohms, delivered continuously in pure Class A with no global negative feedback, so the dip at 85 Hz never forces the amplifier out of its comfort zone. Wilson's own calibrated time-alignment ladder, which lets the midrange and tweeter module be fine-tuned against the woofers for a specific room, is only fully audible when the upstream signal is equally precise, which is what the CH Precision L1 preamplifier and P1 phonostage are built to deliver - a fully discrete, dual-monaural line stage paired with a phonostage offering both current- and voltage-sensing cartridge inputs. The analogue front end, a TechDAS Air Force III Premium air-bearing turntable, a Kuzma 4Point tonearm on sapphire and ruby bearings, and an Air Tight Opus-1 moving-coil cartridge, gives that time-domain precision a source worthy of it, while the LampizatOr Golden Gate 2 DAC and Aurender N30SA streamer keep the digital side equally uncoloured. A Shunyata Research Hydra Triton conditions power for the whole system.
How it sounds
The pairing plays to the Sasha DAW's reputation for directness - a wide, stable soundstage with the low end staying tight instead of swelling, since the Mephisto never has to work hard against that 2.48-ohm dip. Wilson's characteristic immediacy on vocals and acoustic instruments comes through cleanly, with the CH Precision electronics keeping the presentation neutral instead of adding warmth of their own.
Mephisto Stereo, one of the top models in the Gryphon's product line, reflects all the company's developments over its long history.
