The TN-400BT-X is a TEAC record player with belt drive and manual operation that plays records through a conventional wired system or streams them wirelessly to Bluetooth headphones and speakers. It arrives with an Audio-Technica AT95E moving magnet cartridge already mounted, and TEAC USA lists the natural walnut veneer version with a laser-engraved logo at USD 629.99, while matt finishes are also offered.
Key specs that matter
A high-torque DC motor turns a 30 cm die-cast aluminium platter through a rubber flat belt at 33-1/3, 45 and 78 rpm. TEAC rates wow and flutter at 0.2% and signal-to-noise at more than 67 dB A-weighted, or 60 dB unweighted. The aluminium tonearm has an S shape and static balance, with 223 mm effective length, a tracking force range of 0 to 5 g and accepts cartridges of 4 to 8 g, or 14 to 18 g with headshell. The AT95E (VM type) has an aluminium pipe cantilever with a 0.3 x 0.7 mil joint-oval stylus, 3.5 mV output, a recommended force of 2.0 g and a stylus life of about 300 hours. Further AT95E data include 20 dB channel separation, 2.8 kohm coil impedance, a 47 kohm load with 100 to 200 pF capacitance, 20 degrees vertical tracking angle and a weight of 5.7 g. The deck measures 420 x 117 x 356 mm and weighs 4.9 kg.
Engineering and use context
A stainless steel spindle turning in a brass bearing reduces friction for steadier speed. The plinth is high-density MDF, and machined aluminium feet are attached through shock-absorbing rubber to resist acoustic feedback. The built-in phono stage for MM cartridges uses a JRC NJM8080 op-amp and gives 155 mV at the line output, with a switch to a 3.5 mV phono signal for an external stage. The Bluetooth 5.2 transmitter handles SBC, aptX and aptX Adaptive and pairs with a single button and status LED. The arm has a counterweight, anti-skating, a lifter and a universal headshell with gold-plated contacts, so cartridges can be swapped. There is no USB output. Power comes from a 12 V adapter, which accepts 100 to 240 V mains, with consumption of 1.5 W or less and 0.5 W in standby. The A2DP profile is used, and TEAC specifies operation between 5 and 35 degrees C.
Pairing
The line output suits any amplifier or micro system with only line inputs, and the gold-plated RCA jacks plus a rear ground terminal allow use with a separate phono preamplifier instead. A felt mat, EP adapter, dust cover and an RCA cable with ground wire are supplied.
Alternatives
The TEAC TN-5BB is a belt-drive model with a synthetic marble and MDF chassis, an acrylic platter and XLR balanced outputs.
