The PRO T2 is the more expensive of the two DJ decks from Vestlyd, whose products are developed in Denmark by Nordic Hifi A/S, and the maker presents it as equally suited to a home hi-fi system. Against the PRO T1 it gains a stronger motor with faster start-up, a quieter phono stage built with JFET transistors and a better pickup, the Ortofon VNL, fitted from the factory. The maker's price is EUR 549, with a 3 year warranty.
Key specs that matter
The platter is spun by a quartz-controlled brushless DC direct motor that Vestlyd describes as cogging-free, with a torque above 2.0 kgf cm and electronic braking for very fast starts and stops. Three speeds are available - 33, 45 and 78 rpm. Rotation speed variation is rated at plus or minus 0.33 percent, wow and flutter at 0.07 percent or less, and signal-to-noise ratio at 60 dB. A 950 g aluminium platter with a rubber damping layer sits on top. The deck measures 15.6 x 45 x 36.7 cm and weighs 7.8 kg, or 9 kg in its box, and with the lid fitted the height grows to 23.5 cm.
Engineering and use context
An S-shaped aluminium arm with a 230 mm effective length and 21.8 g effective mass carries a detachable headshell, and unlike the cheaper model it also offers VTA adjustment, so arm height can be set to suit other cartridges. Pickups of 3.5 to 8.5 g, headshell excluded, fit the arm, and the recommended tracking force is 3.5 g. The integrated phono section uses JFET devices with a constant-current RIAA stage. Pitch control and instant start make it usable for DJ work, a needle light helps with cueing, and every foot is height adjustable. Vestlyd says the stronger motor brings the platter up to its set speed quickly, an advantage when cueing tracks by hand in a mix. The cartridge housing is a removable SME-mount type, and a felt mat plus a dust cover are included. The high torque helps the platter hold speed when records are handled by hand.
Pairing
Because the RIAA stage is built in, the PRO T2 can be plugged into a plain line input on an amplifier, active speakers or a mixer using the included RCA cable. Anyone who prefers an external phono preamplifier can use one instead. Fitting a different pickup later is straightforward thanks to the detachable headshell and the adjustable arm height.
Alternatives
The Vestlyd PRO T1 is the lower-priced version at EUR 369, fitted with the OM Pro S pickup and a conventional RIAA stage.
