The PRO T1 is the lower-priced of two DJ decks from Vestlyd, a brand engineered on the Danish west coast by Nordic Hifi A/S and drawing on the experience of the Hifi Klubben chain. Vestlyd pitches the pair at both club use and home hi-fi. It combines a retro look with a built-in phono stage, pitch control and three playback speeds, and it ships with a factory-fitted Ortofon OM Pro S, a pickup made in Denmark.
Key specs that matter
A quartz-controlled brushless DC motor drives the platter directly, with a rated speed variation of plus or minus 0.33 percent and a wow and flutter figure of 0.07 percent or less. The deck plays at 33, 45 and 78 rpm. The 935 g rubber-damped aluminium platter turns on a sleeve bearing. Signal-to-noise ratio is 60 dB. The base measures 15.6 x 45 x 36.7 cm and weighs 7.3 kg, rising to 23.5 x 52.5 x 44.3 cm with the dust cover in place.
Engineering and use context
Its S-shaped arm is made of aluminium, measures 230 mm in effective length, has an effective mass of 21 g, and comes with a detachable headshell and adjustable anti-skating. It accepts cartridges weighing 3.5 to 8.5 g, and the recommended tracking force for the fitted pickup is 3 g. A second headshell can hold another pickup, for example one for 78 rpm records, and be swapped in quickly. A built-in RIAA preamplifier lets the deck feed a line input, and pitch control plus instant start suit mixing use. A needle light helps with cueing in dim spaces, and the feet screw up or down to level the deck. Vestlyd describes the design as inspired by classic hi-fi gear of the past, with the focus on solid mechanics and a clean layout. Packed for shipping the deck weighs 9 kg, and the box includes the dust cover, a felt slipmat, a single adapter, an RCA cable and the power supply.
Pairing
Thanks to the internal phono stage, the PRO T1 can connect straight to any amplifier, active speaker or mixer line input with the supplied RCA lead. Vestlyd sells the deck at EUR 369 per piece as a complete package. Owners who already have a dedicated phono preamplifier or a mixer with phono inputs can use that instead, since the moving magnet OM Pro S is a standard pickup for such stages. Later cartridge upgrades are possible within the stated weight window.
Alternatives
The Vestlyd PRO T2 adds a stronger motor with electronic braking, a JFET constant-current RIAA stage and an Ortofon VNL cartridge for EUR 549.
