The PLATINUM Signature is a hand-operated belt-driven record player built by the Neuss firm Sonoro that designs and develops its products in Germany. It belongs to the Signature Line, the brand's higher-end series alongside the ORCHESTRA Shaped Signature loudspeaker and the MAESTRO Quantum Signature streaming amplifier, and was announced for release in 2026. Karl-Heinz Fink and developer Rainer Finck supported its development. It deliberately leaves out convenience features, with no Bluetooth, no automatic lift, no end-of-track shut-off and no built-in phono preamplifier.

Key specs that matter

Two speeds come from a DC motor coupled to the platter by a belt. An optical sensor detects the speed continuously, and the motor control is actively regulated from that signal. The platter is extra thick and heavy, cast from aluminium, and turns on a Delrin bearing under a custom rubber and felt mat. The statically balanced J-shaped tonearm has internal damping, runs in low-friction precision bearings and accepts a replaceable headshell with a bayonet connection. An Ortofon 2M Red cartridge with an elliptical stylus is fitted at the factory. Output is through gold-plated RCA connections, and the tonearm cable is specified at below 100 pF capacitance. The unit measures approximately 423 x 129 x 356 mm and weighs approximately 6.94 kg.

Engineering and use context

The chassis is built in two layers using what Sonoro calls Constrained Damping, a construction meant to keep resonance low by bonding layers so that vibration energy is absorbed between them. Static balance in the arm means tracking force is set with the counterweight rather than with a spring. The low capacitance of the arm cable matters for moving magnet cartridges, whose response at the top end depends partly on the total load capacitance. The housing carries a matte lacquer with the brand's rounded edges, and an acrylic lid covers the deck. The box contains an RCA cable, an alignment template for cartridge setup, an external power supply, an instruction manual and safety instructions. As a manual deck, the arm is raised by hand at the end of each side.

Pairing

Without an onboard phono stage, the deck has to be connected to a moving magnet phono input or a standalone phono preamp. The supplied RCA cable connects it directly, and the low-capacitance arm wiring leaves room for the interconnect to add its own share.

The Sonoro PLATINUM Automatic EAS is the semi-automatic belt-drive model, adding an arm lift, a switchable phono stage, USB and Bluetooth 5.2.
