The PLATINUM Automatic EAS is a semi-automatic belt-driven record player made by the Neuss-based German firm Sonoro. It was introduced on 9 January 2025 at a US price just below USD 700. Unlike a purely manual deck, it raises its tonearm automatically once a record ends and switches off, and it adds a phono stage, USB digitising and Bluetooth transmission, so it can work as a complete analogue source without extra boxes.
Key specs that matter
The cast aluminium platter is belt-driven at two speeds by a DC motor. Speed is monitored optically by a sensor in the spindle axis, feeding an active regulation loop for the motor. The height-adjustable tonearm runs in two low-friction precision bearings and ends in a bayonet-mounted headshell that can be exchanged. An Ortofon 2M Red MM cartridge, which uses an elliptical diamond, comes fitted. Since the internal phono stage can be bypassed, the gold-plated RCA outputs deliver either phono or line level. Bluetooth 5.2 with aptX HD sends the signal to wireless headphones or speakers, and a USB port with an A/D converter lets owners transfer vinyl to a computer. The deck measures approximately 423 x 125 x 345 mm and weighs approximately 5.2 kg.
Engineering and use context
The automatic lift raises the arm once the record has finished, which keeps the stylus from running in the run-out groove and reduces wear, while the end-of-record switch-off stops the platter. Loading the record and lowering the arm remain manual steps. The chassis follows Sonoro's design language with rounded corners and a lacquer finish, offered in black matte or white matte, and an acrylic dust cover protects the platter and arm between listening sessions. The bayonet headshell makes it straightforward to swap to a second cartridge on another headshell. Because the phono stage and the Bluetooth link are on board, the turntable can sit next to active loudspeakers or a soundbar that has only a line or wireless input.
Pairing
With the internal preamplifier switched in, a line input on an amplifier, active speaker or receiver is enough. Switching it out lets the deck feed a dedicated external phono stage or the phono input of an amplifier. For headphone listening, a Bluetooth headset with aptX HD support uses the higher-resolution wireless mode.
Alternatives
The Sonoro PLATINUM Signature is the manual belt-drive turntable of the brand's Signature Line, with a two-layer damped chassis and no Bluetooth or phono stage.
