The Compass is a compact, ready-to-play belt-drive turntable from Clearaudio electronic GmbH, developed over more than two years. It is made in Erlangen, Germany, carried a suggested price of EUR 1,290 and went on sale worldwide in September 2025. It ships with the new T1 tonearm and N1 moving-magnet cartridge already fitted, in either of two colours, black or silver.

Key specs that matter

The Compass runs at 33 1/3 and 45 rpm, and speed accuracy is quoted at plus or minus 0.05 percent. A 20 mm CNC-machined acrylic platter rests on top of an aluminium sub-platter. Drive comes from a decoupled and damped 12 V DC motor through a flat belt. The T1 arm has a 239.12 mm effective length, a 222 mm mounting distance and a 24.02 degree offset angle. The N1 cartridge delivers 3.3 mV at 1 kHz and 5 cm/s, covers 20 Hz to 20 kHz and tracks at 2.2 g. The deck measures 435 x 340 x 120 mm and weighs about 8 kg with tonearm and cartridge fitted.

Engineering and use context

The T1 derives from the Satisfy Kardan arm higher in the Clearaudio range and uses a one-piece aluminium tube with radial pivoted geometry. Its external counterweight balances cartridges from 2.5 to 17.0 g, and anti-skating is set externally. Wiring is a 1.1 m Clearaudio Direct Wire PLUS lead with RCA plugs, and the arm weighs about 390 g with its stainless steel counterweight. The N1 has an aluminium body, an aluminium cantilever and an elliptical stylus; the stylus is user-replaceable, so routine wear does not mean sending the whole cartridge back. Its channel separation is 20 dB at 1 kHz and impedance is 0.66 kOhm. The bearing uses a polished, hardened steel axle in a sintered bronze bushing on a Teflon pad. The chassis is medium-density fibreboard with a steel bottom plate on height-adjustable damping feet, and an acrylic dust cover hangs on stainless steel hinges. Power arrives from an external universal supply. The warranty is two years with online registration within 14 days.

Pairing

The moving-magnet output level matches the moving-magnet phono input found on many integrated amplifiers and preamplifiers, and the RCA lead plugs straight in without adapters.
