The C-Dur Concrete is the special concrete edition of the C-Dur record player made by European Audio Team (EAT), built around an elaborately handcrafted heavyweight concrete plinth. EAT describes the aim of the C-Dur design as bringing the concept of its Forte turntable into a more compact format, and the Concrete version keeps that idea while changing the plinth material. The deck is handmade in Europe and is supplied with a tonearm fitted, so the buyer adds a cartridge and a phono stage.
Key specs that matter
Two nominal speeds are offered, 33 and 45 rpm. EAT quotes speed variance below 0.08 percent at 33 rpm and below 0.09 percent at 45 rpm, with wow and flutter under 0.01 percent at both speeds, while the signal to noise rating is 70 dB. EAT lists the concrete plinth as massive at 20 kg, gives the net weight of the deck as 32 kg, and states 40 kg with packaging. Closed dimensions are 496 x 170 x 396 mm (W x H x D). Maximum power draw is 8.5 W, falling to 0.5 W in standby, and the motor runs from a universal 15 V DC supply rated at 1.6 A.
Engineering and use context
The 5.2 kg aluminium platter sits on a 900 g aluminium sub platter that EAT describes as resonance free. Beneath it, a 1.8 kg mass-loaded bearing block holds the inverted main bearing, which runs on a ceramic ball. An electronically speed controlled motor is mounted in isolation from the concrete, and the whole assembly stands on conical damped aluminium feet. The pre-installed tonearm is the EAT C-Note, a carbon design with a lightweight aluminium headshell that allows full VTA adjustment. Its effective length is 254 mm, its effective mass is 16.5 g and the overhang is 16 mm. Downforce can be set anywhere from 0 to 30 mN. EAT includes a 5-pin to RCA tonearm cable in the box, so the arm connects straight to a phono input without buying a separate lead.
Pairing
With its moderate effective mass, the C-Note is set up for cartridges of medium compliance, and the supplied 5-pin to RCA lead makes a phono preamplifier with standard RCA inputs the natural partner. The low consumption and the universal DC supply mean no special mains arrangement is needed, and the heavy finished deck needs a sturdy support.
Alternatives
The standard EAT C-Dur uses a massive 50 mm MDF plinth in place of concrete and weighs 15.6 kg net.
