The EAT C-Dur is a belt drive turntable handcrafted by European Audio Team technicians around a heavy aluminium platter, an inverted main bearing and an isolated motor with its own speed control electronics. It comes with the carbon C-Note tonearm and is finished in high gloss plum or satin black.

Key specs that matter

The platter weighs 5.2 kg and sits on a 900 g aluminium sub-platter. Speeds are 33 and 45 rpm, selected electronically through a microprocessor with lighted control buttons. The maker specifies speed variance under 0.08 percent at 33 rpm and 0.09 percent at 45 rpm, and wow and flutter below 0.01 percent at both speeds. Signal to noise is rated at 70 dB for electrical noise and 40 dB for mechanical noise. For the arm, effective length is 254 mm, with an overhang of 16 mm and an effective mass of 16.5 g, with a tracking force range from 0 to 3 g. Closed, the deck is 496 x 170 x 396 mm, rising to 475 mm in height when the lid is raised, and its net weight is 15.6 kg, or 21 kg packed. Power draw is 8.5 W at most and 0.5 W in standby.

Engineering and use context

The inverted bearing uses a polished stainless steel spindle topped by a ceramic ball that runs against a Teflon plate acting as the bearing mirror. A special anti-static polished rubber belt links the sub-platter to the motor, which is isolated from the plinth. Speed is held by an AC generator fed from an external universal switch mode supply rated at 15 V DC and 1.6 A, which accepts mains from 90 to 264 V at 47 to 63 Hz. Inside the C-Note arm, a silicon-based grease damps tonearm and cartridge resonances, which the maker says cuts them by more than 50 percent. Two counterweight options are supplied - a 125 g weight for cartridges of 5 to 9 g, and a 142 g version with an additional insert for pickups from 8.5 to 13 g. A dust cover, foot pads, a single adaptor, the drive belt and the power supply are also part of the delivery, and each unit is tested by the factory before it ships partially disassembled for safe transport.

Pairing

The arm connects over a 5-pin socket, and the included audiophile Connect IT E cable terminates in RCA plugs, so the deck plugs into any standard phono input. Any cartridge that falls inside the 5 to 13 g window covered by the two counterweights can be mounted.

Alternatives

The EAT C-Major is a more compact deck by the same company, fitted with a shorter version of the C-Note arm and weighing 9 kg, with manual speed change.
