The Unity is a 10-inch radial tonearm from Clearaudio of Erlangen that joins a single-point bearing with a newly developed magnetic stabilisation system. Its bearing concept goes back to the Naim Aro Mk II, an arm Clearaudio developed for the Naim Solstice turntable, and the Unity adds a more elaborate bearing housing intended to cut unwanted resonances further. It was presented in 2025 at a US price of USD 20,000, and it is also supplied as part of the limited Master Jubilee turntable package.

Key specs that matter

Effective length is 254 mm and overall length 370 mm, with the pivot mounted 238 mm from the spindle. Overhang is 16.22 mm and the offset angle 21.59 degrees. Effective mass is 16 g, and the arm balances cartridges between 5.0 and 17.0 g. Without its counterweight it weighs 790 g. The bearing uses a sapphire point, and the tube is a carbon monocoque in black or silver, combined with aluminium and stainless steel parts. The 1.1 m Super Sixtream signal lead ends in RCA plugs, with a DIN connection offered as an alternative. Clearaudio gives two years of warranty after the card is returned within 14 days.

Engineering and use context

The magnetically stabilised single point, Clearaudio explains, gives particularly controlled guidance of the arm while still allowing the cartridge to be adjusted with micrometre accuracy. Clearaudio chose the 10-inch length because it balances effective mass against tracing error better than either the 9-inch or the 12-inch format, in the company's view. Anti-skating comes from a series of magnets inside the bearing housing, works without mechanical linkages and is adjusted with a thumb screw. Height is continuously variable, so VTA can be changed during playback and then locked for rigidity. Azimuth is set at the junction of the tube and bearing housing and can also be locked. Interchangeable counterweights attach magnetically to a sled, which lets the owner place them in the most favourable position for a given pickup.

Pairing

With 16 g of effective mass, the Unity falls into the medium to heavy group and is a sensible home for stiffer moving coil designs, and the 5 to 17 g window covers most wooden and metal bodies. Clearaudio names its own turntables as natural partners but states that the design also fits decks from other makers. Any armboard needs a hole at the specified pivot distance, and the DIN lead option helps with phono stages or cables built around that connector.
