The E-07 was released for Luxman's 100th anniversary in 2025 at USD 6,695, GBP 5,500 or EUR 6,490. It is an all solid-state phono equalizer amplifier from Luxman, built as a dual-mono design with three power transformers and four step-up transformers for moving coil signals, two per channel. It handles MM cartridges and both high-output and low-output MC types, with separate transformer windings for each MC gain setting.
Key specs that matter
Gain is 38 dB for MM, 57 dB for MC-High and 66 dB for MC-Low. Input sensitivity is 3.2 mV, 0.37 mV and 0.12 mV for those three modes, and maximum input is 120 mV, 15 mV and 5 mV. Rated output is 250 mV, with an output impedance of 300 ohm on RCA and 600 ohm on XLR. RIAA accuracy is within 0.1 dB from 20 Hz to 20 kHz for MM and within 0.3 dB for MC. Total harmonic distortion is 0.003%. Signal to noise is 88 dB for MM, 81 dB for MC-High and 78 dB for MC-Low, and channel separation is 80 dB or more. Consumption is 13 W. The chassis measures 440 x 92 x 407 mm without knobs and terminals and weighs 13.2 kg.
Engineering and use context
The RIAA equalization runs without negative feedback, and the first stage parallels four FETs to lower noise. The MC step-up transformers use a super permalloy core chosen for its response to very small signals. Each of the three OI-type power transformers works independently. Three inputs can be selected, one on XLR and two on RCA, and the outputs mirror that with one XLR and two RCA sockets. MC loading is set by a six-position rotary selector with 4.7, 10, 40, 100, 300 and 1,000 ohm, while rear switches give MM loads of 34, 47, 56 and 100 kohm plus capacitance options. The slim chassis matches the width of Luxman's separate amplifiers and has a blasted white front panel. Further controls include an articulator function that removes magnetization from the cartridge, a low-cut switch, a mono mode and phase inversion. Large grounding terminals machined from solid brass are provided for each input.
Pairing
The three inputs let up to three tonearms or turntables stay connected at once, each with its own ground terminal. The balanced output suits a preamplifier or integrated amplifier with XLR line inputs, and the mono mode serves mono records.
Alternatives
The Luxman EQ-500 is a phono equalizer that uses vacuum tubes in all stages, seven in total, with an SRPP circuit in its first two stages.
