The X2 is a network music player from Lumin with an internal DAC and an external linear power supply in its own chassis. Lumin announced it on 8 November 2025 as its new top model and as the first of its players with a fully discrete DAC, the result of years of in-house development. List prices were USD 16,800, GBP 12,995 and AUD 28,000. Both boxes come in black or raw anodised aluminium.
Key specs that matter
Conversion uses a custom dual Lumin Discrete DAC with a fully discrete architecture. File support reaches DSD512 (22.6 MHz, 1-bit) and PCM up to 768 kHz at 16 to 32 bits, with optional upsampling to DSD256 or 384 kHz PCM. Formats include FLAC, ALAC, WAV, AIFF, MP3 and MQA. Analogue outputs are balanced XLR at 6 Vrms (pin 2 hot) and single-ended RCA at 3 Vrms. The main unit measures 350 x 345 x 77 mm and weighs 8 kg, and the power supply is 106 x 334 x 77 mm at 4 kg.
Engineering and use context
Lumin keeps the analogue stage fully balanced throughout, ending it in a pair of Lundahl LL7401 output transformers, driven by a new output buffer that includes compensation circuitry for the transformers. Clocking is handled by a Femto Clock System with two femto crystal oscillators, whose signal is distributed by an FPGA. The network section offers Gigabit Ethernet on RJ45 and an industry-standard SFP socket for optical fibre, and both ports work simultaneously. The optical socket gives galvanic isolation, and the built-in switch lets further devices such as a NAS drive be linked through the X2. A USB output carries the full native DSD and PCM resolution to an external converter, and a BNC S/PDIF output handles PCM up to 192 kHz and DSD over DoP at 2.8 MHz. A USB input reads storage drives formatted in FAT32, exFAT or NTFS. The external supply is a linear design with two toroidal transformers in a chassis machined from solid billet, keeping digital and analogue feeds separate, and it links to the main unit through a 9-pin connector. IsoAcoustics isolating feet are fitted under the chassis.
Pairing
With both XLR and RCA outputs, the X2 can feed a preamplifier or integrated amplifier directly, and the high balanced level suits inputs built for higher voltage. The USB and BNC outputs also allow it to act as a network transport for an existing outboard DAC, while the SFP socket accepts a fibre link from a switch with an optical port.
