The RS520 from HiFi Rose, a South Korean brand founded in 2017 as a subsidiary of the touchscreen kiosk maker Citech, is a network streamer with a stereo power amplifier built into the same box. It adds a DAC, a video output and a 12.6-inch touch panel, so one component can replace a separate streamer, converter and integrated amplifier. It launched at USD 3,695 in the American market and was later listed at USD 3,995.

Key specs that matter

The FTC power rating is 250 W per channel into 8 ohm from 20 Hz to 20 kHz at 0.05% THD, while HiFi Rose headlines 200 W per channel. The frequency range is quoted as 10 Hz to 85 kHz at 1 W into 8 ohm. An ESS Sabre ES9038PRO chip does the conversion and accepts PCM from 8 kHz to 768 kHz at up to 32 bit and native DSD up to DSD512, with full MQA decoding. Digital inputs cover optical, coaxial, USB DAC and HDMI eARC, plus one analogue line input. Outputs include optical, coaxial, a preamp out and HDMI 2.0 video at up to 3840 x 2160 and 60 Hz. The chassis is 346 mm wide, 127 mm high and 328 mm deep, with a weight of about 8.1 kg.

Engineering and use context

Gallium nitride FETs drive the output stage - the same parts used in the HiFi Rose RA180 amplifier - and cut switching dead time by one third compared with conventional parts. Power factor correction lets the supply accept 100 to 240 V mains and helps the unit run cool without a fan. The case is machined from one solid piece of aluminium to damp micro-vibration, and the DAC section is fully balanced. The interface runs on a customised Android 7.1 build with native apps for Apple Music, Qobuz, TIDAL and web radio stations, while Roon Ready certification sits alongside AirPlay, Spotify Connect, DLNA and Bluetooth 4.2 through a supplied dongle. Networking is via gigabit Ethernet or dual-band 802.11ac Wi-Fi. A 2.5-inch SSD can be fitted inside for a local library and for caching streams, and an optional RSA-780 USB drive allows CD playback and ripping to WAV or FLAC. The screen can show album art, video at 60 fps or VU meters. There is no headphone socket and no dedicated subwoofer output.

Pairing

The minimum rated load is 4 ohm, so passive bookshelf or floorstanding speakers of average efficiency are a practical match. A separate power amplifier or an AV receiver can be connected later through the preamp output, and the eARC input brings television audio through the same amplifier.
