The Play CD Edition is a compact all-in-one unit from Eversolo that combines a network streamer, DAC, preamplifier, Class D power amplifier and slot-loading CD drive in one aluminium case. It shares its electronic platform with the standard Eversolo Play - the same DAC, the same amplifier and the same streaming architecture - and adds only the disc mechanism with ripping. List prices are USD 799 in the US and EUR 799 in Europe, with a one-year warranty in the US.

Key specs that matter

Its amplifier stage delivers 60 W per channel into 8 ohm and 110 W into 4 ohm. Conversion uses an AKM AK4493SEQ chip that accepts PCM up to 32-bit and 768 kHz and native DSD512. Noise lies at least 109 dB below the signal, A-weighted, THD at 5 W and 1 kHz is 0.0037%, and crosstalk is -108 dB. Frequency response is flat within plus or minus 0.25 dB from 20 Hz to 20 kHz and reaches -3 dB at 40 kHz. The case is 230 mm wide, 230 mm deep and 75 mm tall and weighs about 2.9 kg. Files in WAV, FLAC, AIF, AIFF, AAC, APE and CUE formats play back.

Engineering and use context

The chassis is CNC-milled aluminium with an integrated heatsink, finished in black. A 5.5-inch touchscreen on the front shows playback, menus and virtual VU meters, and the unit runs on 4 GB of DDR4 memory with 32 GB of internal eMMC storage. The CD transport plays discs directly and can also rip them to lossless files for the local library. The network link runs over wired Gigabit Ethernet or over Wi-Fi in the 2.4 and 5 GHz bands, and Bluetooth 5.3 handles SBC and AAC. The Play CD Edition is a Roon Ready endpoint and supports TIDAL Connect, Qobuz Connect, DLNA and UPnP, WebDAV, Amazon Music, Apple Music, Deezer and TuneIn, with multiroom grouping. Two rear USB 3.0 ports take external drives, and an onboard parametric equaliser is available in the Eversolo Control app for iOS and Android.

Pairing

The analogue side has a phono input for MM and MC cartridges and an RCA line input, while digital sources connect through HDMI ARC, optical and coaxial inputs, so a television and a turntable can both run through the unit. Speakers connect directly to the amplifier terminals. A subwoofer output has a crossover adjustable from 40 Hz to 500 Hz. For a larger external converter, a USB audio output passes the full DSD and PCM resolution, and there is a coax digital out as well.
