The Eversolo DMP-A6 Gen 2 is a streaming source that also contains its own DAC, running an Android 11 based operating system and fronted by a 6 inch touchscreen. This is the Gen 2 revision of the DMP-A6, sold in the US for USD 859, and it can act as a streamer, a DAC for a computer, a digital transport and a hub for a local music library.
Key specs that matter
Two ESS ES9038Q2M DAC chips work in parallel, and an XMOS XU316 third-generation USB audio processor handles the USB interface. Native DSD512 and PCM up to 768 kHz and 32 bit are supported over USB, along with MQA decoding, while HDMI carries DSD64 multichannel. Eversolo quotes more than 128 dB for SNR and for dynamic range alike, with THD+N of 0.00009 percent. Analogue outputs are rated at 5.2 V balanced and 2.6 V single-ended. The platform uses a quad-core ARM Cortex-A55 processor with 4 GB of DDR memory and 32 GB of eMMC storage.
Engineering and use context
The main changes from the first generation are an upgraded linear power supply with a 12 V rail and background noise of about 40 microvolts, HDMI ARC support, trigger switch-on and Wake on LAN network start. An M.2 NVMe 3.0 SSD slot takes internal storage for a local library, so the player can serve its own files, with drives of up to 8 TB per slot supported. Network playback covers Roon Ready, TIDAL Connect, DLNA, UPnP and AirPlay, and files can also be read from NFS, SMB and WebDAV shares, while apps for TIDAL, Qobuz, Amazon Music and Highresaudio run on the device. A Qualcomm QCC5125 chip provides Bluetooth. Eversolo's own EOS engine bypasses Android sample rate conversion so files reach the DAC at their native rate. Digital inputs are USB, optical, coaxial and HDMI with ARC, and an external USB CD drive can be connected too.
Pairing
Analogue RCA outputs feed an integrated amplifier or preamplifier directly, and the digital outputs - optical, coaxial and HDMI with multichannel audio up to 5.1 - let the player feed a separate converter or a surround processor. A television can send its audio in through HDMI ARC, turning the player into the digital centre of a compact system. The trigger function lets it switch an amplifier on with it. For headphone listening a separate headphone amplifier on the analogue outputs is needed, and Roon users can run the unit as an endpoint while the library stays on a server elsewhere in the home network.
Alternatives
The Eversolo DMP-A6 Master Edition Gen 2 is the upgraded streamer version of the same platform with its own converter section.
