The Omnia is an all-in-one unit from Audiolab that brings together a CD drive, a DAC, a streaming section, a moving magnet phono stage, a preamplifier, a headphone amplifier and stereo amplification inside one chassis. Two colours, black and silver, are listed, and the analogue preamp circuitry follows the design of the Audiolab 6000 Series.

Key specs that matter

The discrete Class AB power amplifier is rated at 2 x 50 W into 8 ohm and 2 x 75 W into 4 ohm, both at under 1 percent THD, with a maximum output current of 9 A and distortion below 0.003 percent at 1 kHz and 40 W into 8 ohm. Its signal-to-noise ratio is 110 dB A-weighted. The 32 bit ES9038Q2M DAC accepts PCM up to 768 kHz and DSD512 over USB, and 192 kHz through optical and coaxial inputs, with a 114 dB A-weighted noise figure and THD under 0.0006 percent at 1 kHz. Line inputs have 10 kohm impedance and 8 dB gain, and the preamp output impedance is 100 ohm. The unit measures 440 x 156 x 327 mm and weighs 9.1 kg.

Engineering and use context

Here the output stage uses a complementary feedback topology, which Audiolab chose for linearity and thermal stability. Power comes from a 200 VA toroidal transformer followed by four 15,000 uF reservoir capacitors, 60,000 uF in total. Volume is set by a precision analogue stage. The MM phono stage applies RIAA equalisation with 47 dB gain, 3.1 mV sensitivity and a 47 kohm input with 100 pF. Connections include three line inputs, S/PDIF inputs in coaxial and optical form, two of each, USB-B for a computer and USB-A for storage. DTS Play-Fi streaming over IEEE 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac covers Amazon Music, Spotify, TIDAL, Qobuz, Deezer, Napster, KKBox, SiriusXM, iHeartRadio, Pandora and internet radio, and the unit is Roon tested. Bluetooth 5.0 supports aptX and aptX Low Latency. A 4.3 inch IPS display, 80 x 48 mm, shows a real-time VU meter. Standby draw is below 0.5 W. The CD drive builds on the Audiolab 6000CDT transport, uses a read-ahead digital buffer to reduce disc-reading failures and handles pressed discs plus CD-R and CD-RW. A remote control is supplied.

Pairing

The headphone output has 10 ohm output impedance, drives loads from 20 to 600 ohm and holds THD under 0.01 percent at 1 kHz and 50 mW. The preamp output gives a route to a further power amplifier or to an active subwoofer.
