The 9000N is the network streamer of the Audiolab 9000 Series, sharing its look and user interface with the 9000A amplifier and the matching CD transport. It combines a streaming engine, a DAC with variable output and digital outputs in one full-width case. Black and silver versions are made, and the box weighs 8 kg when packed.

Key specs that matter

Conversion uses the eight-channel ES9038Pro chip from ESS, paired with the ESS HyperStream II design and its jitter eliminator working in the time domain. PCM runs from 44.1 kHz up to 768 kHz at 32 bit, and DSD64, DSD128, DSD256 and DSD512 are handled natively, while the digital outputs are limited to 192 kHz at 24 bit. Signal-to-noise ratio exceeds 116 dB on RCA and 120 dB on XLR, and total harmonic distortion stays below 0.001 percent at 1 kHz and 2.05 Vrms. The DAC response is 20 Hz to 20 kHz within 0.5 dB, with output impedance of 120 ohms and a variable level from 0 to 2.05 V. The chassis measures 444 x 89 x 333 mm and weighs 6.2 kg net.

Engineering and use context

Audiolab designed its own post-DAC active filter specifically for the ES9038Pro. A quad-core Arm Cortex-A53 processor running at 1.8 GHz per core drives the system and caches album artwork so files load faster. Network access is by dual-band Wi-Fi to IEEE 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac or Gigabit Ethernet, with a USB Type-B port for a computer and USB storage in FAT32, exFAT or NTFS. Spotify Connect with lossless support, TIDAL Connect with MQA, Qobuz Connect and TuneIn are built in, alongside Roon Ready certification and UPnP AV. Lossless files in FLAC, WAV, ALAC, AIFF, DSF, DIFF and DoP play alongside compressed MP3. A 4.3 inch IPS screen at 800 x 480 pixels shows full-colour artwork or analogue and digital VU meters, can be dimmed or turned off and offers menus in several languages. The front carries only rotary controls and a power switch, and standby consumption is below 0.5 W. Mains versions cover 220 to 240 V or 100 to 120 V at 50 or 60 Hz.

Pairing

The 9000N feeds a power amplifier or an integrated model through its XLR pair or its RCA pair, and its optical or coaxial output can supply a separate DAC. A 12 V trigger input and link output let the streamer be switched remotely from another component.
