The Aquila X3 is a streaming media processor from AURALiC that combines a network streamer, a CD transport and optional conversion modules in one full-width case. Units were built to order from April 2025, with a starting price of USD 14,999, about EUR 14,499 or GBP 11,499 before taxes. A modular architecture with a separate power supply unit lets owners add or replace sections over time, and the front carries a 14 inch touchscreen.
Key specs that matter
The base unit accepts Ethernet and WiFi, two Toslink inputs, one coaxial input, USB-B at the rear and USB-C on the front for USB audio, and HDMI eARC. A USB 3.0 port reads external storage, and internal NVMe storage is available as a 4 TB or 8 TB option. The optional analog output module adds the Fusion DAC Gen II with an integrated LEO clock, an ORFEO Class A output stage and ORFEO passive analog volume control. A further module provides analog and phono inputs with an onboard ADC. Digital output is also offered as a module.
Engineering and use context
Streaming is handled by the Tesla G3 platform, supported by Direct Data Recording and galvanic isolation carried over from the G2.2 series. Power comes from an external variable-frequency supply that uses Class AB regeneration, with a regeneration frequency selectable by the user up to 400 Hz, and the resulting AC feeds linear power modules. AURALiC states that this design removes EMI noise and contamination arriving from the mains. The Purer-Power low-noise approach from the G2.2 models is also included. AURALiC wrote new control software for the Aquila X3 together with LightningCast, its next-generation multi-room streaming protocol, and the unit works with Lightning DS, TIDAL Connect, Qobuz Connect and AirPlay 2. Trim comes in Jet Black, Space Grey or Titanium Gold, and the top panels can be swapped between aluminium polycarbonate, solid walnut, natural slate and marble.
Pairing
Once the analog output module is installed, the passive ORFEO volume control lets the Aquila X3 connect straight to power amplifiers or active monitors, leaving out a separate preamplifier. Without it, the unit acts as a source for an outboard DAC. The HDMI eARC input brings TV audio into the same chain, and the built-in CD transport means a disc player is not needed as an extra box. The optional phono module accepts a turntable, whose signal is digitised by the onboard ADC.
Alternatives
The AURALiC ARIES G2.2 is a dedicated streaming transporter from the same maker, also based on the Tesla G3 platform but without a DAC, display or CD drive, in a 340 x 320 x 96 mm case.
