The MP 3100 HV is the multi-source SACD player of the HV series by the Herford company T+A Elektroakustik. A single chassis holds a disc transport, a D/A converter with its own digital inputs, a high-resolution network streaming client, internet radio, a Bluetooth module and an FM, FM HD and DAB+ tuner. The transport plays SACD stereo, CD, CD-R, CD-RW and CD Text, reading SACD as DSD64 at 2.8 MHz and CD as PCM at 44.1 kHz.
Key specs that matter
Frequency response is 2 Hz to 20,000 Hz for CD and extends to 44,000 Hz for SACD. Total harmonic distortion is 0.001 percent, signal to noise ratio exceeds 116 dB and channel separation exceeds 110 dB. Through USB the converter accepts PCM up to 32 bit and 384 kHz and native DSD up to DSD512 at 22 MHz, the latter under Windows with a driver. The chassis measures 17 x 46 x 46 cm and weighs 26 kg, in silver or titanium.
Engineering and use context
T+A builds its own SACD and CD precision drive with dual laser technology, housed in a shielded mass-damped aluminium enclosure on a three-point anti-resonance suspension. PCM and DSD follow independent signal paths. DSD reaches the fully discrete True 1 Bit converter, while PCM goes to the Double Differential Quadrupel converter with DSP oversampling and Bezier polynomial interpolation. Jitter is removed with PLL circuits and precision quartz oscillators, and the master clock is generated directly at the converter. The analogue output stage is a double mono design with a 120 kHz cut-off, galvanically isolated from the digital circuits by i-couplers. Power comes from two independent supplies - a switched-mode unit for the digital section and a linear supply with two toroidal transformers for the analogue stage, with two separate mains cables. Standby draw is below 0.5 W. Digital inputs are one AES/EBU on XLR and five S/PDIF, one coaxial, two BNC and two Toslink. Network playback over LAN and WLAN handles FLAC, ALAC, WAV, AIFF, MP3, AAC, WMA and OGG Vorbis files, with Tidal, Qobuz and Deezer built in and Roon Ready support, and Bluetooth handles aptX. Control is by the F 3100 infrared handset or the T+A MusicNavigator app.
Pairing
The analogue outputs, two balanced XLR plus two RCA, feed an integrated amplifier or a preamplifier, and the chassis format matches other HV series units such as the A 3100 HV power amplifier.
Alternatives
The later MP 3100 HV G3 is the current version of this player in the T+A HV series.
