The 3100 HV Gen 3, sold by T+A as the MP 3100 HV G3, belongs to the HV series of the German maker and combines a custom SACD drive, a streaming client, a DAC open to external digital sources and a radio tuner in one case. It uses the third generation of T+A's streaming architecture and its Path Separation Technology, which processes PCM and DSD data in separate paths.

Key specs that matter

The transport inside is a high-precision linear-tracking design with a dual laser system, using 658 nm for SACD and 790 nm for CD, and it plays stereo SACD, CD Text, CD, plus CD-RW and CD-R media. T+A gives a range of 2 Hz to 20 kHz with a 100 dB dynamic range for CD, and 2 Hz to 44 kHz with 110 dB for SACD. Signal-to-noise ratio exceeds 116 dB, THD stays below 0.001% and channel separation is above 110 dB. RCA outputs deliver 2.5 V and XLR outputs 5.0 V, both at 50 ohm. The case measures 17 x 46 x 46 cm and weighs 26 kg.

Engineering and use context

For PCM, T+A fits its Double-Differential-Quadruple design, in which four 32-bit sigma-delta converters work on each channel running at 352.4 or 384 kSps. DSD goes to a separate T+A True-1Bit converter that treats the data natively as a bitstream. A De-Jitter master clock governs timing. Digital inputs include AES/EBU, S/PDIF on coaxial, BNC and optical, and USB in both device and master mode, accepting PCM up to 384 kSps and DSD512, and one coaxial S/PDIF output is provided. The streaming client handles FLAC, ALAC, WAV, AIFF, MP3, AAC, WMA and OGG Vorbis over UPnP up to 32 bit and 192 kHz, handles DSD files up to DSD512 directly, and gives access to Qobuz, Tidal, Amazon Music HD, Deezer, Tidal Connect and Spotify Connect. The tuner covers FM from 87.5 to 108 MHz, plus DAB+ and internet radio, and Bluetooth with aptX HD is built in. Remote operation uses a radio-frequency handset, and the player can also be run from the T+A app. Power comes through two supplies of 40 W each, and standby draw is below 0.5 W.

The balanced output matches balanced XLR inputs on a line stage or integrated model, while the digital inputs let a television, computer or second transport use the same converter. Within the HV series T+A offers the P 3100 HV preamplifier, the A 3100 HV power amplifier and the PA 3100 HV integrated amplifier as matching partners.
