The D10 Reference Transport is the optical disc drive of the 10 Series from CH Precision, the Swiss maker of modular digital and analogue electronics. It was introduced in May 2025 as a dual-chassis design, with the disc mechanism in one box and its power supply in another. It reads CD, CD-R, CD-RW and MQA-CD at 16 bit and 44.1 kHz, plus single-layer and hybrid stereo SACD as 1-bit DSD at 2.8224 MHz. It has no converter of its own and hands the data to an outboard DAC.

Key specs that matter

Both boxes share a footprint of 440 x 440 x 133 mm (W x D x H). The transport chassis weighs 42 kg and the supply chassis 23 kg. The standard digital output set comprises one CH-Link HD port, one AES/EBU on XLR, one coaxial S/PDIF on RCA and one optical TOSLINK. Mains voltage is selectable between 100 V, 115 V and 230 V at 47 to 63 Hz, and consumption is under 0.5 W in standby and at most 100 W while playing. The front panel carries an 800 x 480 pixel 24-bit RGB AMOLED display.

Engineering and use context

The D10 uses a version of the in-house MORSE laser mechanism weighing 13 kg, more than ten times the mass of the one in the D1.5. Its structure combines an aluminium skin with a dense brass core, and the whole assembly floats on four tuned Alpha Gel isolators that place the suspension resonance below 20 Hz. A precision circular level fixed directly to the mechanism lets the optical pickup be aligned independently of how the outer chassis stands. Discs go in from the top through a motorised vertical access Disc Vault closed by a hybrid-action sealing door. Inside the separate supply unit, four galvanically isolated domains feed the transport motor, the control logic, the DSP and the master clock, each through cascaded regulation, so motor current does not share a rail with the timing circuits. Operation is through a 10-button panel, an infrared remote or an Android app. Two option slots take an additional digital output board and a clock sync board for locking to an external reference. The standard finish can be replaced by Anthracite or Champagne.

Pairing

The CH-Link HD output is intended for the brand's own converters, such as the C10 or C1.2, and the T10 time reference can drive the optional sync board. Through AES/EBU or S/PDIF, the transport also feeds converters from other makers.

Alternatives

The CH Precision D1.5 is a single-chassis SACD and CD transport that accepts optional DAC boards and can therefore work as a complete player.
