The Model T Sub is the larger of Bryston's two Model T series subwoofers, made in Peterborough, Ontario, to accompany the Model T floorstanding loudspeakers in stereo and home cinema systems. It uses the same footprint as the Mini T Sub but a cabinet 375 mm taller that holds an extra woofer.

Key specs that matter

Three 8-inch drivers share a vertical baffle and receive 600 W from a class D amplifier. Response is specified from 18 Hz to 150 Hz within 3 dB, and Bryston lists 108 dB of dynamic range measured at 1 m anechoic. Height is 985 mm, width 267 mm and depth 424 mm, and each unit weighs 48 kg. Walnut, Boston Cherry and Black Ash veneers are standard, and other finishes can be ordered.

Engineering and use context

Stacking three modest cones in a narrow column gives more total cone area than a single driver of similar width could offer while keeping the floor space the same as the smaller model. Power for the class D stage comes from a linear supply, and an onboard DSP engine manages the signal path. The crossover selector has five fixed points - 40, 60, 80, 100 and 150 Hz - alongside a two-position phase switch at 0 or 180 degrees and a continuously variable level control. Switching on the subsonic filter removes content below 20 Hz, a setting intended for vinyl playback, while leaving it off keeps the lowest effects on film soundtracks intact. The status LED glows green in operation and red in standby, and a power switch beside the three-wire mains socket cuts all power when the system is left unused for a long period. For export the amplifier can be reconfigured between 115 V and 230 V mains, with a T6.3AL fuse for the lower voltage and a T3.15AL fuse for the higher one. Owners can swap the fitted soft feet for the spikes supplied in the carton.

Pairing

Connection options are an RCA line input, a balanced XLR input with a balanced output for looping, and high-level binding posts that take a feed from an amplifier's speaker terminals. A 12 V trigger link over a 3.5 mm cable lets an AV receiver or processor power the sub up and down, and the trigger output can pass that command to a second subwoofer when two are used. If ground loop hum occurs, the chassis ground screw on the panel can be taken out.
