The Divin Sovereign is an active, DSP-controlled subwoofer made by Göbel High End in Germany, and the maker lists it as the flagship of its high-power subwoofers. It had its world premiere at High End Munich in May 2022, and shipping started after the show. The launch price was EUR 29,500 including 19% VAT in Europe and USD 32,500 before local taxes for buyers in the USA.
Key specs that matter
A single 18-inch long-throw driver of Göbel's own design works in a closed chamber, driven by a built-in 2,500 W amplifier. Frequency response runs from 10 Hz to 200 Hz depending on the DSP settings. The cabinet stands 78 cm tall and 60 cm deep, with a width of 54 cm that tapers to 44 cm, and it weighs 145 kg without packaging. Connections include XLR and RCA inputs, XLR and RCA pass-through outputs, a 12 V trigger input and a WBT grounding terminal. The standard finish pairs real black piano lacquer with ultra-matte black aluminium and brushed silver highlights, and custom finishes can be ordered.
Engineering and use context
Göbel chose a sealed chamber rather than a port for impulse behaviour and for tight control of the cone. The walls are a resin-bonded composite board up to 75 mm thick, damped by a constrained-layer build and stiffened by a network of internal braces, and the material is specified as tropical room proof. The driver has an optimised motor for a linear magnetic field, glass-fibre voice coil formers and a stiff membrane of paper and carbon fibre. Its amplifier is a Class H design with very low output impedance, which gives a high damping factor and keeps back EMF from the driver out of the amplifier. The German-made DSP engine offers input gain, a channel mixer, low-pass and subsonic filters, parametric EQ, delay, phase, a signal watchdog, an input voltage limiter and four preset filters. Adjustment is done from an iOS or Android device through a proprietary WiFi dongle, which can be unplugged once the settings are stored.
Pairing
Since the amplifier is built in, the subwoofer takes a line-level feed from any preamp stage with line outputs, and balanced XLR is available for longer cable runs. The pass-through outputs let the same signal continue to the main power amplifier, and the trigger input allows the unit to switch on together with the rest of the system.
Alternatives
For a larger bass system from the same maker, the Göbel Epoque Aeon Baforce Petite uses eight 9-inch aluminium drivers in sealed chambers and is offered in active form with 8 x 250 W.
