The Revel B110v2 is a powered subwoofer in the Performa3 family from Revel, a Harman International loudspeaker marque with its headquarters in Northridge, California. It replaces the original B110, and it shares its amplifier, rear panel and magnet system with the larger B112v2, from which it differs in driver size and cabinet volume. The 10-inch model is offered in high-gloss black, white and walnut.
Key specs that matter
A single 10-inch coated paper and pulp cone works with a built-in amplifier specified at 1,000 W RMS and 2,000 W peak, inside a sealed enclosure. In normal mode Revel quotes low frequency extension of 34.4 Hz at -3 dB, 30 Hz at -6 dB and 27 Hz at -10 dB. Its low-pass control sweeps between 50 Hz and 150 Hz, and turning it fully to LFE takes the filter out of circuit. Input sensitivity is 400 mV for full power, with input impedance of 20 kOhm on the balanced XLR connectors and 14 kOhm on the unbalanced RCA pair. With grille the cabinet measures 428 mm high, 364 mm wide and 342 mm deep, and the unit weighs 24.4 kg.
Engineering and use context
The woofer was designed specifically for the two Performa3 v2 subwoofers, with the goal of reaching high output at very low frequencies while keeping distortion low. Its 50 mm two-layer copper voice coil is wound on a heat-tolerant fiberglass former, a Nomex spider with progressive roll spreads mechanical stress, and an oversized SBR rubber surround allows longer linear travel than a foam surround. The 8.7 kg Klippel-optimized motor uses a double-stacked ceramic 5 magnet with a flared vent, a thick shorting ring and extra cooling vents in the back plate. Together these changes raise linear excursion by 82 percent over the first B110. The vented die-cast aluminum frame reduces back pressure and draws heat from the coil, and the cone and dustcap are also vented. Revel forms the box with continuous layers of wood to stop it splitting, and braces it inside. An Extended switch lowers the bass limit further, at the cost of lower maximum output.
Pairing
The sub accepts either a stereo preamplifier signal on its left and right inputs or the dedicated sub output of a receiver or processor, in which case the crossover knob is set to LFE. A phase switch aligns it with the main speakers. Three power modes are selectable - Auto, On and Trigger. In Auto the unit wakes on signal and returns to standby after ten minutes of silence, and 12 V trigger in and out jacks let several Performa3 v2 subwoofers switch on in a daisy chain.
Alternatives
The Revel B112v2 uses the same amplifier with a 12-inch driver, reaching lower in a 468 x 404 x 420 mm cabinet weighing 29.4 kg.
