Davone's Twist is a passive two-way tower, named after the side panels that turn along their height as they rise from a separate stand. Paul Schenkel designed it, and like the rest of the Danish range it is hand-built in small batches in Denmark. The current Twist-R, available from November 2025, brings a newly designed crossover and Danish-designed drive units. Davone supplies it as a stereo pair ready for a later move to active operation through the in-house WiSA or WiFi modules.
Key specs that matter
Its drive units are a 180 mm mid-woofer with a fibre blend cone and a 1 inch ceramic dome tweeter, crossed over at 2.2 kHz in what Davone calls reference line topology. Passive response is quoted as 38 Hz to 22,000 Hz. The load is 4 ohm nominal with a minimum of 3.7 ohm at 350 Hz, sensitivity is 88 dB at 2.83 V and 1 m, and Davone recommends 100 to 200 W of amplification. The speaker measures 96 cm in height, 24 cm in width and 27 cm in depth, with a weight of 17.3 kg per speaker. The standard version has a fixed black fine weave polyester grille, while the Twist Select adds a front upholstered in Danish Kvadrat Metric fabric, quarter-cut walnut side panels and a stand in sand grain black powder coat.
Engineering and use context
The twisted sides are seven-layer beech veneer and the baffle is ten-layer HDF. Davone forms the bent plywood by gluing the sheets, placing them in a mould, pressing them under about 100 tonnes with heat for 3 to 5 minutes, and then machining details on a five-axis CNC machine. The ported cabinet is shaped to reduce internal standing waves near 200 Hz. The woofer motor was optimised with Finite Element Analysis to reach better than 95 percent symmetry across the voice coil travel, and it uses a vented 39 mm fibreglass voice coil former, a copper cap on the centre pole to cut inductance and a die-cast aluminium chassis. The tweeter has a vented pole piece shaped for airflow and a motor with controlled saturation.
Pairing
With a passive pair, pick an amplifier that stays stable into the nominal load and meets at least the lower end of Davone's power recommendation. The WiSA module turns the Twist into an active system with 2 x 100 W of ICEpower Class D amplification, an ADAU1452 quad-core DSP, an AKM4490 DAC and lossless wireless transfer up to 96 kHz and 24 bit, extending bass to 35 Hz. It adds HDMI ARC for a television, Dolby Atmos multichannel support and multiroom playback via Chromecast and AirPlay 2, while more than 60 brands including LG, Toshiba and Bang & Olufsen support the WiSA standard.
Alternatives
Another two-way Davone floorstander worth comparing is the Reference Two, which pairs a 7.5 inch Textreme carbon fibre woofer with a 1 inch beryllium dome in a 97 cm cabinet.
