The TITAN 707 is a two-way floor-standing loudspeaker from Kudos Audio of Britain and sits in the Titan series alongside the 505, 606 and 808. It is the only Titan with twin mid/bass drivers in an isobaric bass arrangement, and as with its siblings it can be converted from passive to active operation. It is offered in Black Gloss, Black Oak, Liquid Amber, Natural Oak, Walnut and White Gloss.

Key specs that matter

For high frequencies Kudos fits a SEAS-Kudos Crescendo K3 29 mm fabric dome tweeter, a SEAS unit re-engineered for the Titans and shared by every model in the series. Two SEAS-Kudos 220 mm mid/bass drivers have double coated paper cones, 39 mm voice coils with copper shorting rings and aluminium phase plugs. Kudos quotes 25 Hz to 30 kHz as an average in-room response, 89 dB sensitivity at 1 W and 1 m and a nominal impedance of 6 ohm, with recommended amplifier power from 25 W to 300 W. Each cabinet is 1,050 mm high, 298 mm wide and 370 mm deep, stands on a plinth of 300 x 380 mm and weighs 50 kg.

Engineering and use context

Bass loading combines the isobaric principle with a fixed boundary reflex port, a layout Kudos uses to control the lower octaves from two drivers working together. Kudos uses high density fibreboard in several thicknesses, with differential panel resonance control and resonance control pads to damp the walls. Kudos follows a minimal, low-order crossover philosophy. Parts include air-core inductors, Mundorf MResist Supreme resistors and ClarityCap capacitors using CopperConnect technology. Owners can bypass the internal crossover and run the speaker actively, either through the Kudos SIGAO DRIVE crossover or through electronics such as Linn Exakt, Devialet Expert and the Naim SNAXO, with separate amplifier channels driving tweeter and mid/bass.

Pairing

With its twin mid/bass drivers, a solid-state amplifier with stable output into low loads suits the TITAN 707 better than a small valve design. The passive version works with a conventional stereo integrated or pre and power combination, and the active route requires one of the compatible crossover systems and extra amplifier channels.
