The Titan 606 is the most compact floorstanding model in the Titan range from Kudos Audio, hand-built in County Durham, England. It has a clearly smaller footprint than the Titan 707 and is aimed at homes where a less imposing speaker is wanted. The twin mid/bass drivers were developed specifically for this model, while all four Titan models use one common K3 tweeter that SEAS reworked specially for Titan. Cabinets come in six finishes, including Liquid Amber, Walnut and gloss black and gloss white.
Key specs that matter
Kudos classes the 606 as a 2-way isobaric reflex floorstander. The tweeter is a SEAS Kudos Crescendo K3 with a 29 mm fabric dome. Two SEAS-Kudos 180 mm mid/bass units share the lower band, each with a coated reed paper cone, a 39 mm voice coil, an aluminium phase plug and a shorting ring made of copper. Frequency range is 30 Hz to 30 kHz measured in room (AIRR). Sensitivity is 84 dB at 1 W and 1 m and nominal impedance 8 ohm. Kudos recommends amplifiers between 25 W and 250 W. Each cabinet is 950 mm high, 256 mm wide and 320 mm deep, sits on a plinth of 220 x 255 mm and weighs 35 kg.
Engineering and use context
Only one of the two mid/bass drivers is visible. The second is mounted inside the cabinet behind the first, facing it back-to-back in the isobaric arrangement that lets the pair behave as one driver with a stiffer effective suspension, giving deeper bass and lower distortion from a slim enclosure. Bass reflex loading uses a fixed boundary gap port in the base of the cabinet. As a result the port output is coupled to the floor rather than to the wall behind, which gives more freedom in placement. Panels of varying thickness are cut from High Density FibreBoard, with resonance control pads applied inside. The crossover is low-order with a minimal parts count, with parts that include Mundorf MResist Supreme resistors, inductors wound without an iron core, and ClarityCap capacitors with CopperConnect technology. The internal crossover can be bypassed, so the speaker can also be run actively through a second set of rear terminals that connect directly to the mid/bass drivers and the tweeter. Kudos names Linn Exakt, Devialet Expert and Naim SNAXO among the electronics suited to this active mode.
Pairing
The low sensitivity means an amplifier nearer the upper end of the Kudos window makes sense in a 20 m2 room, while the benign load keeps the choice of amplifiers wide.
Alternatives
The Kudos Titan 707 offers a bigger Titan tower with a wider footprint.
