The Symphony is a Tekton Design tower, now USD 8,530 per pair against a former USD 9,200. The maker describes it as the Encore concept with vertical symmetry, using the same drivers in a taller cabinet, and it is fitted with neodymium beryllium tweeters from Satori in its high-frequency array. Every Symphony is assembled in Orem, Utah.
Key specs that matter
The high-frequency section is a hybrid MTM array of fifteen 30 mm Satori neodymium beryllium domes. Two European-made 7-inch mid-bass units, which Tekton calls overtone and harmonic drivers, and two 10-inch woofers complete the set, and the midrange crossover section is of minimum-phase design. Frequency response is 20 Hz to 50 kHz, with ±1 dB from 28 Hz to 20 kHz. Sensitivity is 96 dB, nominal impedance is 4 ohms with other impedance options offered, and the 800 W rating is a peak value. Each cabinet measures about 1,829 x 330 x 381 mm and weighs about 70.3 kg.
Engineering and use context
Vertical symmetry means that the drivers above and below the central array are arranged as mirror copies of each other. Compared with the Encore, the Symphony is about 254 mm taller, about 4.5 kg heavier and fitted with beryllium domes from Satori as standard, while the Encore offers beryllium as an upgrade. The array follows Tekton's patented polygon-oriented principle, US Patent 9247339, in which several low-mass radiators share the upper frequencies. Beryllium is a light and very stiff metal used for high-frequency domes, and the Symphony shares its upper limit and its minimum-phase midrange crossover with the Encore. Options include an upgrade package, USD 75 bi-amp or bi-wire connections, high gloss paint, grilles and footers. Shipping to the continental US is included in the price.
Pairing
The high sensitivity lets tube amplifiers of moderate power drive the Symphony, while solid-state amplifiers can supply more power for higher levels. The standard low-impedance load suits amplifiers with solid current delivery, and the alternative impedance versions give tube amplifiers an easier load. Their height and bass reach call for a large room of well above 20 m2 and space between the speakers.
Alternatives
The Tekton Design Encore uses the same drivers and array concept in a shorter cabinet, with beryllium domes as an option, at USD 6,499 per pair.
