The SourcePoint V10 Master Edition is a tower speaker made by MoFi Electronics, a subsidiary of the record label Mobile Fidelity Sound Lab, designed by Andrew Jones. It builds on the SourcePoint 10 platform, taking the concentric driver idea of that model into a tall three-way cabinet with passive radiators. The cabinets are sold in pairs. Andrew Jones joined Mobile Fidelity in 2021 after leaving ELAC, and the SourcePoint range is his work for the company.
Key specs that matter
MoFi quotes a frequency range of 27 Hz to 30 kHz and a sensitivity of 91 dB measured at 2.83 V and 1 m. Nominal impedance is 6 ohm, with a minimum of 4.5 ohm, and maximum power is given as 200 W. The crossover points sit at 130 Hz and 1.4 kHz. Each speaker stands 124 cm tall, 39.4 cm wide and 50.5 cm deep, and weighs 72.6 kg. Two finishes are offered, walnut and black ash, both as book-matched veneer under a satin clear coat.
Engineering and use context
Every cabinet carries five 10-inch drivers. At the top of the array is a concentric unit, where a 1.25-inch soft dome tweeter sits in the centre of a 10-inch paper cone midrange, so both frequency bands radiate from a single point. Below it, twin 10-inch woofers handle the bass, and dual passive radiators on the rear panel extend low-frequency output without a port. The Master Edition crossover network uses polypropylene film capacitors, metallised film resistors and air-core inductors. The multi-chambered enclosure has a sculpted 51 mm thick front baffle with a multi-faceted shape intended to control dispersion, while the remaining sides are made of 25 mm thick panels with a real wood veneer and extensive internal bracing. Switches on the speaker let the user change the treble level, and magnetic grilles cover the front and lift off when not wanted.
Pairing
Both the nominal and minimum impedance are moderate, and the sensitivity figure means amplifiers of modest output can drive the speaker, while the maximum power rating marks the upper limit of amplifier power. Rear-firing passive radiators require open space behind each cabinet, and given the weight of each speaker, moving and positioning them needs two people.
Alternatives
The MoFi SourcePoint 888 is a smaller floorstander by the same designer, combining an 8-inch concentric driver with two 8-inch woofers in a 1,067 mm tall cabinet weighing 43.5 kg.
