The Signature 707 from MAGNAT, the German maker based in Pulheim, belongs to the Signature 700 series. It is a passive four-way floorstander with a double bass layout and bass-reflex loading, standing just over a metre tall. The front is lacquered, black and white versions are offered, and its tweeter module is certified for Hi-Res Audio.

Key specs that matter

MAGNAT lists a lower cut-off of 22 Hz and an upper limit of 54,000 Hz. Sensitivity is 92 dB at 2.8 V and 1 m, and the impedance range is given as 4 to 8 ohm. Power handling is 220 W RMS and 380 W maximum, and MAGNAT recommends at least 30 W of amplifier output. The crossover points sit at 350 Hz, 2,700 Hz and 17,000 Hz. Without spikes each speaker measures 21 cm wide, 105.5 cm tall and 34.5 cm deep, and it weighs 23.4 kg. The spike outriggers take the height to 107 cm and the width to 29 cm.

Engineering and use context

Five drivers make up the four ways. Two 6.5-inch woofers cover the lowest band, and a 6.5-inch midrange works between the first two crossover points. Above that a 1.2-inch dome tweeter takes over, and a 0.75-inch super-tweeter adds the top band. Both tweeters are fmax dome designs grouped in a single module. The woofer and midrange diaphragms are a ceramic and aluminium sandwich. The reflex port fires out of the back panel. The enclosure is made of MDF with metal accents, and the fabric grilles can be removed. Height-adjustable solid metal spikes give a stable footing and isolate the enclosure acoustically from the surface below. The terminal panel has two pairs of gold-plated posts that accept single cables, bi-wiring or separate amplifier feeds for the upper and lower sections.

Pairing

Given its high sensitivity and a low minimum power recommendation, the Signature 707 can be driven by a modest stereo integrated amplifier, while its power handling also accepts much more powerful designs in a 20 m2 room. The split terminals also make bi-amping possible, where a first stereo amplifier powers the two bass drivers and a second powers the midrange together with both tweeters, each through its own set of posts.
