The SBS Gen 2 is the second generation of the active SBS speaker system from Sigberg Audio of Oslo, Norway. It pairs a compact sealed monitor with Sigberg subwoofers, so the full-range figures apply to the complete package rather than to the small cabinets alone. The entry package with a single Inkognito subwoofer was priced at EUR 10,500 or USD 12,000, and deliveries started in March 2026. The package is sold direct and shipped worldwide with a 60-day trial, and the maker also quotes a price of NOK 168,000.
Key specs that matter
Each monitor is a 4-way design in a sealed box, using a 5.5 inch mid-bass unit and a 5.5 inch coaxial driver with a 1 inch silk dome tweeter at its centre. An active 3-channel Hypex nCore class D module supplies 350 W per speaker, and a DSP runs the crossover, which is asymmetric with first and third order linear phase slopes. With the subwoofers, anechoic response is 26 to 20,000 Hz within 2.5 dB, and typical in-room extension reaches 18 Hz at the minus 3 dB point. Maximum level is 114 dB at 1 m with weighted pink noise, and distortion stays under 1 percent THD at 96 dB and 1 m above 100 Hz. Each cabinet measures 190 x 410 x 230 mm and weighs 9.5 kg.
Engineering and use context
The second generation brings a new mid-bass driver whose cone carries a laser-etched Fibonacci pattern and an aluminium phase plug, both aimed at reducing cone resonances. The crossovers and tuning were revised using work done for the Sigberg MANTA, and the industrial design was refreshed with cleaner edges. Two satin finishes are offered, Shady White with a contrasting grey grille and Jet black, and the grilles now show the logo when fitted. A 9-band parametric EQ can be set by hand, and three factory treble presets of 0 dB, plus 2 dB and minus 2 dB are stored. Self-noise is stated to be inaudible beyond about 30 cm, which makes near-field listening at a desk practical. Latency is under 1 ms on analogue inputs and under 2 ms on digital ones.
Pairing
Since amplification is built in, the SBS needs only a source. Analogue inputs are RCA and balanced XLR, and digital inputs are optical, coaxial S/PDIF and AES, with through connections for chaining. The system can run with the 12 inch Inkognito subwoofer, which weighs 22 kg, or with the 10D dual 10 inch model at 27 kg each, so a streamer, preamplifier or DAC with a digital or balanced output completes the chain.
Alternatives
Sigberg Audio also builds the Saranna, an active floorstanding speaker with a coaxial driver, two rear-mounted 8 inch bass units and 600 W of Hypex amplification in each cabinet.
