The Remiga 2 Be is a floorstander from Alare Labs, the Italian brand whose founding team came from Audia Flight, built as a passive design with three frequency bands. It is the beryllium-tweeter variant of the Remiga 2, the larger of the two Remiga series, while the Remiga 2 Dia retains a diamond tweeter in the same enclosure. The original Remiga 2 was the first model Alare showed publicly, in Hong Kong in 2021, and the warranty is three years for materials and workmanship of each pair.

Key specs that matter

A 34 mm tweeter with a pure beryllium membrane handles the treble, larger than the 25 mm beryllium dome used in the Remiga 1 Be. Alare selected beryllium because it is extremely light and stiff, which helps the diaphragm keep its shape and avoid breakup, and states that it outperforms titanium and aluminium. The middle band goes to a 170 mm Accuton driver with a pure ceramic membrane, and the bass is divided between a 250 mm and a 200 mm woofer with carbon sandwich cones. Stated response runs from 32 Hz to 30 kHz within 0 to -3 dB, and sensitivity is 88 dB at 2.83 V and 1 m. Impedance is 4 ohm nominal and 3.3 ohm at its lowest point. A single cabinet measures 135 x 35 x 58 cm and weighs 120 kg without crating.

Engineering and use context

A tapered transmission line is shared by both woofers, a twin-driver arrangement that Alare shapes carefully along its length. The enclosure is a constrained layer damping design, with different woods laminated together by special damping glue layers, and it is reinforced from inside by steel bracing. Crossover parts sit on non-conductive boards and are joined by point to point runs of silver-plated solid copper, and the internal wiring to the drivers is silver-plated copper as well. The midrange comes from the Cell line of Accuton and works from a chamber that is damped with special aramid fibre wool. Eight finishes are offered, among them gloss lacquers in red, brown, gray, white and black, optical black and the veneers California burl and Amara ebony.

Pairing

The Remiga 2 Be needs a transistor amplifier that is comfortable driving low loads and can supply high current, since the sensitivity is only moderate for a cabinet of this size.
