The Remiga 2 is a passive floorstander with three ways from Alare Labs, the Italian firm started by engineers from Audia Flight. Presented in Hong Kong at the 2021 High End Audio Visual Show, it was the first commercial speaker of the brand. On the maker's current site this original version with a diamond tweeter appears as the Remiga 2 Dia, next to a Remiga 2 Be using beryllium. European pricing at introduction was EUR 69,000 per pair, and the Remiga 2 is the larger of the two Remiga ranges.

Key specs that matter

Two custom woofers of 250 mm and 200 mm with carbon sandwich cones take care of the bass. A 170 mm Accuton Cell midrange with a pure ceramic membrane covers the middle band, and the treble is reproduced by a 30 mm Accuton tweeter whose pure diamond diaphragm has a concave profile. The beryllium tweeter of the Remiga 2 Be is slightly larger at 34 mm, while the woofers, midrange and cabinet are shared by both versions. Alare gives a range of 32 Hz to 30 kHz within 0 to -3 dB, sensitivity of 88 dB at 2.83 V and 1 m, and an impedance of 4 ohm nominal and 3.3 ohm minimum. One speaker is 135 x 35 x 58 cm and weighs 120 kg.

Engineering and use context

A shaped transmission line loads the woofers, while the midrange is housed in its own damped chamber within the main cabinet, a space that Alare fills with aramid fibre wool. According to Alare, the two woofers share one tapered line. Panels are built from sandwiches of various woods with damping glue between the layers, a constrained layer damping design. The cabinet stands on a cantilever metal base with adjustable feet, and the feet can be replaced with spikes. The crossover board is hinged for access, with its components mounted on non-conductive material and connected point to point by silver-plated solid copper wire. The maker lists eight finishes, ranging from gloss lacquers to wood veneers, and an internal steel cage adds bracing to the enclosure.

Pairing

Because of the low impedance minimum, the logical partner is a transistor design that handles low loads without strain and delivers high current, even though sensitivity sits one decibel above that of the Remiga 1 models.
