The R45 is a floorstanding loudspeaker of the Radia range, made by the British company Arcam as part of HARMAN, and Arcam calls it the ultimate expression of its loudspeaker design philosophy. Of the two towers in the range it is the bigger one. The range was unveiled at ISE 2026 in Barcelona as the return of Arcam to speaker building, with stores expected to have the speakers by May 2026. The R45 is priced at GBP 2,999 or EUR 3,500 for each speaker, and a pair therefore costs twice that amount.
Key specs that matter
Five drivers are split across three passive crossover bands. Three 165 mm Micro Ceramic Composite woofers work below 275 Hz, a 165 mm Deep Ceramic Composite midrange covers the band up to 1.7 kHz, and a 25 mm DCC aluminium dome tweeter takes over above. Arcam states a frequency response of 30 Hz to 40 kHz within plus or minus 6 dB and sensitivity of 88 dB at 2.83 V and 1 m, with a nominal impedance of 6 ohm. The recommended amplifier range is 20 to 250 W. Each speaker is 358 mm wide, 415 mm deep and 1127 mm high, weighs 39.7 kg net and 52.0 kg packed.
Engineering and use context
Arcam fits the woofers and midrange into newly patented cast frames that use inverted surrounds, and an acoustic lens waveguide surrounds the tweeter. A precision crossover assembled from selected parts divides the frequency range among the driver sets. Bass loading is reflex, with a pair of ports on the back of the enclosure, and the cabinet walls are rigidly cross-braced inside. The finish is black natural walnut veneer with subtle yellow accents, and magnets hold the grille so no fixing hardware shows on the front baffle. HARMAN measurement and testing facilities were used in the development of the series. With the SA35 and SA45 amplifiers, or the Radia AV products that were announced alongside, an Anechoic EQ mode known as AEQ tailors the amplifier output to these speakers. Other Radia models are the R15 and R25 standmounts, the R35C centre and the R25B powered subwoofer.
Pairing
Even a modest integrated amplifier meets the minimum power Arcam asks for the R45, while the upper limit leaves room for larger power amps. Arcam lists the SA35 and SA45 streaming amplifiers as the partners that enable AEQ.
Alternatives
The Arcam R35 is the smaller Radia floorstander, with three 130 mm woofers, a 130 mm midrange and a 1038 mm tall cabinet.
