The p2 is a passive two-way floorstanding loudspeaker from Manger Audio, the German company founded on the bending-wave driver work of Josef W. Manger and headed by Daniela Manger since his death in 2016. It sits in the Manger systems range with the passive P1, Z1 and W1 and the active S1 and C1. The European price has been quoted at EUR 15,800 per pair.
Key specs that matter
Manger lists a frequency range of 30 Hz to 45 kHz, with the crossover set at 340 Hz. Sensitivity is 89 dB at 1 W and 1 m into a nominal 8 ohm impedance, and maximum sound pressure level is 112 dB peak. The maker recommends amplifier power between 50 and 200 W. Each cabinet measures 1139 mm high, 270 mm wide and 214 mm deep, and weighs 33 kg.
Engineering and use context
Midrange and treble are handled by the Manger Sound Transducer W06, a flat membrane driven by two voice coils wound in opposing directions. High frequencies are generated near the centre while lower frequencies travel toward the edge, where a central star damper prevents reflections, so the upper band runs without a crossover point. The drivers are made in Mellrichstadt. The W06 measures 15.3 cm across with a 50 mm mounting depth and weighs 1.2 kg, and as a standalone unit it is specified from 150 Hz to 40 kHz with 50 W RMS and 80 W peak power handling, so the p2 crossover keeps it clear of its lower limit. Bass comes from an 8 inch woofer with a patented sandwich membrane of carbon fibre and foam, an optimised magnet system and a 50 mm voice coil. The enclosure is sealed and adds two passive radiators stacked vertically, and this feature marks the difference from the P1, which relies on a closed box alone. The cabinet has a 38 mm front baffle and heavy internal bracing, and stands on a solid aluminium plinth with conical damper feet. The styling follows Bauhaus lines with gently rounded edges, and the two passive radiators sit on the rear panel. Terminals are copper WBT plasmaprotect nextgen bi-wiring posts. Finishes include matt or satin colours, real wood veneer and ultra high gloss.
Pairing
An easy nominal load plus a broad power recommendation leave a wide choice of amplifiers. Manger lists the p2 as compatible with Devialet SAM processing and with LINN Exakt filters and LINN Space Optimisation. The split terminals also allow bi-amping with two stereo amplifiers, one driving the woofer and one driving the W06 transducer.
Alternatives
Within the Manger systems range, the p1 offers a passive floorstanding design with a sealed cabinet.
