The ONE.loudspeaker, earlier sold under the name Endeavor, is the entry point to the floorstanding range of Von Schweikert Audio, an American maker of high-end loudspeakers. The company describes it as a compact, full-range three-way design and gives it the same beryllium tweeter that appears in its top Ultra series.

Inside are two long-throw aluminium woofers, a Kevlar midrange and the beryllium dome tweeter on the front baffle, plus a 75 mm ribbon with a neodymium magnet fitted to the back of the cabinet to recover ambience. The company specifies a frequency response of 29 Hz to 22 kHz, a sensitivity of 89 dB at 1 W and 1 m and a nominal impedance of 4 ohm. The speaker stands about 112 cm tall, 23 cm wide and 38 cm deep, and one channel weighs roughly 37 kg.

Engineering and use context

The enclosure uses a triple-wall laminate method that Albert Von Schweikert developed in 1994 together with lab partners from Cal Tech. The outer layer is resin-based HDF, the middle layer is a synthetic stone held in a resin binder, and the inner layer is a dense woven damping material, giving a wall about 76 mm thick in total. Internal braces of varying stiffness are added, and no two side panels run parallel, which breaks up internal standing waves between them. A composite wall of this thickness is far heavier and more inert than a single sheet of MDF of normal thickness. The rear ribbon radiates backward, so part of the treble output arrives at the seat by way of the wall behind the speaker, a feature the company links to a wide listening area rather than a single fixed seat. With its narrow front the tower keeps a slim profile for its height, and the depth leaves room for the woofers and the layered walls. The ONE was developed as a lower-cost route into the brand's cabinet and tweeter technology. Standard finishes include American walnut, and a wide choice of custom automotive paint colours is offered on order.

Pairing

The recommended minimum amplifier power is 60 W per channel. Given the low nominal impedance, an amplifier specified to deliver stable power into such loads makes the most sense, while the sensitivity means power needs stay reasonable for a 20 m2 room. Because the rear ribbon depends on reflections, the speakers should not be pushed right against the back wall.
