La Sphere Evo is an active four-way connected loudspeaker from Cabasse and the successor to La Sphere of 2006, a four-way point source design that used a 50 cm bass driver. The French company presented the Evo at High End Munich 2025 as part of its 75th anniversary, covering 1950 to 2025, and deliveries began in the third quarter of that year. It is a numbered limited edition, with a plaque on each base, and the drivers carry a lifetime warranty. The price is EUR 120,000 or USD 135,000 per pair.
Key specs that matter
One TCA tri-coaxial driver with aramid fibre diaphragms covers treble, upper midrange and low midrange in each speaker, joined by two 30 cm HELD woofers in a push-push arrangement. Cabasse lists 1,200 W RMS into 4 ohm at 0.1 percent THD plus noise for each woofer, for the low midrange and for the upper midrange, and 300 W for the tweeter. These figures add up to 5,100 W per speaker and to the quoted total of 10,200 W RMS. Band limits at minus 6 dB are 10 to 170 Hz for bass, 170 to 900 Hz for low midrange, 900 to 3,400 Hz for upper midrange and 3,400 to 27,000 Hz for treble. Maximum output reaches 127 dB SPL. Each unit measures 134.2 x 62 x 62 cm and weighs 60 kg.
Engineering and use context
Amplifiers, DSP, converters and streaming electronics all sit in a base only 7 cm thick, so the sphere contains nothing but drivers. Conversion uses an AKM4493 DAC, and supported files include MP3, AAC, WMA, WMA Lossless, AIFF, FLAC, ALAC, Ogg Vorbis and DSD 64 and 128. The sphere has a five-layer matte black finish, and it rests on a mirror-polished chrome base shaped as a Lissajous curve, a tribute to the physicist Jules Antoine Lissajous and a symbol the brand has used since its founding. A chrome front ring, machined stainless steel joints and a solid aluminium stand complete the structure. Every unit is measured in an anechoic chamber in the Brittany workshops before shipping.
Pairing
No external amplifier is needed. Connections cover HDMI eARC with CEC for a television, balanced XLR and unbalanced RCA analogue inputs for a preamplifier or phono stage, an optical TOSLINK input, USB, Ethernet, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth, with Roon Ready certification for network playback. A TOSLINK S/PDIF output is also provided. Control runs through touch buttons on the speaker and a dedicated app.
