The Guru 28 is a compact floorstanding loudspeaker from Guru, a company established in 2007 that designs its models in Stockholm, Sweden, and builds them by hand in the EU. It is sold only as a special order item and uses a Helmholtz resonator enclosure made from MDF, Valchromat and steel, with a height of just under 86 cm.

The typical in-room response is given as 28 Hz to 30 kHz. Sensitivity is 88 dB at 2.83 V and 1 m. Nominal impedance is 5 ohm with a minimum of 4 ohm, and Guru recommends amplifiers rated between 60 W and 300 W. Crossover points are listed as 100 Hz for the woofer handover and a 2 to 7 kHz band for the tweeter handover. Each cabinet is 182 mm wide, 858 mm high and 238 mm deep. Engineering and use context

The Guru 28 carries four drivers. At the top a 19 mm soft dome tweeter is placed over a 102 mm mineral fibre cone midrange, and two 110 mm paper cone woofers fire toward the back of the cabinet. Handing the deep bass to the woofers leaves the small midrange free of deep bass excursion. The rear-firing woofers are meant to work with the wall behind them, and Guru specifies placement close to the wall, at a distance of 0 to 25 cm. That brief suits living rooms in which furniture leaves no space to pull speakers forward from the wall. Valchromat, a coloured wood fibre panel, is added to the MDF and steel used in the smaller Guru models. Cabinets come in white, black, walnut veneer, oak veneer or the light grey Fog. The steel parts and the Helmholtz resonator loading carry over from the bookshelf Guru 8, so the two models share a design approach and tweeter size.

Pairing

Its minimum power recommendation is three times that of the Guru 8, so the three-way design asks for a stronger amplifier than the bookshelf model. A solid-state integrated able to deliver solid current into the lower part of the load is a logical partner. The slim front suits a room of about 20 m2 where floor space is limited, and the placement close to the wall keeps the speakers out of the walkway.
