The Exquisite Grand 3.0 belongs to the Exquisite Collection from Dutch maker Kharma, where it sits between the Exquisite Midi Grand 3.0 and the taller Exquisite Extreme Grand 3.0. The 3.0 suffix marks a revision that Kharma announced in August 2021 and applied across the whole Exquisite range, and this model carries the type code EXQ-GR-3.0-GS. Its listed price is EUR 260,000, and the finish shown for it is Macassar burl walnut.

Key specs that matter

The Exquisite Grand 3.0 is built as a four-way, point-source symmetrical system. Treble is covered by three concave diamond tweeters - one of 20 mm and two of 30 mm - while two 7-inch Kharma Omega-7 drivers handle the midrange and two 12-inch Nomex Kevlar woofers take the bass. Kharma quotes a frequency range of 20 Hz to 90 kHz, a nominal impedance of 4 ohm falling to a minimum of 2.7 ohm, and an efficiency of 92 dB at 2.83 V and 1 m. Power handling is 500 W RMS and 1,000 W program, and maximum output reaches 118 dB. Each cabinet is 2,020 mm high, 475 mm wide and 785 mm deep.

Engineering and use context

Kharma describes its in-house crossover as the core of the design and says the technique behind it is seldom used by other companies because of its complexity. The 3.0 revision reworked the interface between the crossover, the bespoke drivers and Kharma's own binding posts, and internal wiring now comes from the company's Exquisite cable range. A new integrated stand rests on four 8 mm tungsten balls, which keeps the contact area with the floor very small and decouples the cabinet from its surroundings. The Kharma Key wrench supplied with each pair tilts the stand up or down, so no separate discs are needed under the cabinet. Separate terminals serve the mid/high section and the low section, which allows bi-wiring or bi-amping, and silver bridge terminals are included for single-wire use.

Pairing

Given how far the impedance dips, the amplifier has to stay stable into low loads, while the high efficiency keeps the wattage needed for high levels within reason. Kharma's own Exquisite MP1000 monoblocks, rated at 400 W into 8 ohm with Class A/AB circuitry, come from the same collection, and the split terminals let one amplifier pair drive the woofers while a second pair handles the upper section.

Alternatives

The Kharma Exquisite Extreme Grand 3.0 is the tallest model of the same Grand series, 2,245 mm high with two 15-inch composite woofers and a 1,250 W RMS rating.
