The Eminence is a tower speaker that Wilson Benesch, based in Sheffield, England, unveiled in 2018. It stands 1905 mm tall and weighs 145 kg per channel, and it uses ten drive units in each cabinet within a 2.5-way layout.
Key specs that matter
A 25 mm Fibonacci hybrid silk-carbon tweeter works with a 170 mm Tactic 3.0 midrange, two 170 mm Tactic 3.0 upper bass units and two 170 mm Tactic 3.0 low bass units. Two isobaric drive systems add four further 170 mm Tactic drivers, each pair in clamshell formation. Wilson Benesch quotes 24 Hz to 30 kHz within 2 dB, a sensitivity of 89 dB at 1 m with 2.83 V input and an impedance of 4.5 ohm. The baffle is 205 mm wide, the foot measures 613 mm at its widest point, and depth is 624 mm.
Engineering and use context
Its midrange driver takes the amplifier signal with no filter parts at all. A 5 kHz second-order network feeds the tweeter, the upper and low bass units first-order networks, and both isobaric systems roll off above 500 Hz through first-order low-pass networks. The enclosure uses the A.C.T. 3Zero advanced biocomposite monocoque in poly-alloy hybrid form, with infinite baffle sealed enclosures and a labyrinth sealed tweeter backplate. Steel compression ties of 13 mm hold the structure under several tons of vertical force. The tweeter has a carbon fibre and nylon composite faceplate carrying a geometrically optimised Fibonacci Element and is decoupled from motor and chassis against structure-borne resonance, and the Fibonacci Element also appears in the driver dust caps through additive manufacturing. A sculpted carbon fibre composite top, shaped by hand in clay, laser measured and refined in 3D CAD, is designed to diffract rather than reflect. The foot is machined from a 120 kg block of aluminium alloy and, with two extension plates, hand-wheels and spikes, weighs 35 kg per channel.
Pairing
A bi-wirable terminal is set into the foot at ground level, so two cable runs can reach the high and low sections separately. The base cabinet colour is a textured black, and buyers can instead order walnut, ebonised walnut and burr walnut veneers or paint finishes named Phantom Belladonna, Mugello Grigio Ferro, Senna Volcanic Orange, Huracan Verde and Aventador Blu Aegir as options, and the isobaric systems come in textured black, gold or rhodium silver.
Alternatives
The Wilson Benesch Resolution 3zero is a Fibonacci Series floorstander with two isobaric drive systems, a height of 1558 mm and a weight of 98 kg.
